Research Participant Parking

Research participant parking will take place in the Parkway South Ramp attached to the MIDB. Please have research participants enter through the first floor lobby

Research staff is responsible for escorting participants through the building

Driving directions to the MIDB can be found here.

*Please note that this process is intended for research participant parking only*

Parking Validation Process

The MIDB ramp uses the new J4M validation program.  If your study is paying for research participant parking, those costs will be covered through a validation process. Information on using the validation system can be found here

For each study that has a unique chartstring, you will need to create a parking Shop with an administrator that serves as the Merchant to manage the shop. Information on requesting a Shop and associated Merchant accounts can be found on the PTS Website.  A detailed instruction guide can also be found here

An individual can serve as the merchant for multiple shops. Therefore, if you have multiple studies running at one time, one person can manage the parking for the multiple studies.

Researchers should include parking costs with future grant requests.  Information on parking rates is available here.

If there are issues using the validation system, check with CNBD staff in 2-144, or call PTS at 6-7275.  In general, errors indicate a system-wide problem and your participant will need to press the call button when exiting to have the gate lifted.

Surface Lot 69

The CNBD has purchased five parking spaces in the surface lot behind MIDB that are available for researchers during evening/weekend sessions. The entrance to the surface lot is off of Cecil Street to the West of the building.

Other Participant & Staff Transportation

Lyft Pass

The MIDB Lyft Pass program provides Lyft rides for staff and select students within the campus coverage area during eligible time windows. If you haven't already received an invitation, email Joseph Alf (jalf@umn.edu) to sign up for this program. Once you receive the invitation email, simply follow the steps provided to join the program and be immediately eligible for rides. We suggest you formally accept the invitation on your smartphone so it will automatically accept the Lyft Pass in your existing Lyft account on your phone. Note that the Lyft Pass will automatically renew each month.

Don’t have a Lyft account? Download the Lyft app on your smartphone and create an account. You’ll use your own personal app for all rides associated with this program.

Program Details:

Rides available:

● Monday - Friday: 6:30 am - 6:30 pm

● Must start and end in the coverage area

● Valid on Standard Lyft car rides only

Coverage Area:

Rides must start or end at the MIDB and be within the overall service area to be eligible (see attached map). Any rides beginning or ending outside of the coverage area are not eligible.

Cost:

As long as the ride is within the coverage area and the established hours, then the cost of the ride will automatically be covered by the MIDB’s Lyft Pass program. Tips are not covered for eligible rides in this program and would be attributed to your personal Lyft account.

If you have any questions, please email Joseph Alf at jalf@umn.edu

Lyft Concierge

The MIDB has partnered with Lyft to bring Lyft Concierge services to the CNBD. Studies can utilize Lyft Concierge to send rides to pick up research participants and bring them to the MIDB for research sessions, as well as bring them back home. More information on this service can be found here. To request Lyft Concierge for your research study, please fill out this request form. Please note that unlike Lyft Pass, the MIDB does not pay for Lyft Concierge services--those funds must come from the project's budget.

Bike racks can be found on the first floor of the parking garage.
