University employees may participate in commitments with external entities as long as the outside commitment does not present a conflict of commitment. There are specific procedures related to reporting and obtaining prior approval, which apply to faculty and academic professional and administrative (P&A) staff, who hold appointments of 75% or more and engage in outside professional commitments.
To mitigate the potential for a conflict of commitment, employees must obtain prior approval via the Request for Outside Commitment (ROC) form to engage in certain outside activities. The ROC form must be completed prior to outside commitments commencing.
The University's Report of External Professional Activities (REPA) form must be filed annually to report external professional activities during the past year. Typically due in February, those individuals required to file will receive an email with instructions in January, when the filing period opens. Filers will need to identify their departmental approver as the department chair.
