Coursework: The following are the minimum criteria for students appointed to graduate instructor TA positions in Ed Psych:
3xxx-level courses: BA and successful completion of the course or equivalent. Preferred one year in program and TA experience in the course.
5xxx-level courses: PhD, ABD, MA or master’s equivalent and successful completion of the course or equivalent. (Preferred criteria for master’s equivalent is completion of 30 credits toward the MA degree program and completion of the Research Methods core coursework).
8xxx-level courses: PhD required.
Payment: Graduate instructors will be paid at the level I salary rate unless they have taught a course before, assisted in the course or participated in a teacher prep course (e.g., EPsy5271 or the CTLS Preparing Future Faculty Course). After having taught or assisted in the course or participating in a teacher prep course, graduate instructors will be paid at the level III salary rate.
No approval is necessary for Graduate Assistants to work 50-75% time. Appointments over 75% time must have adviser and program coordinator approval.
Decisions about Special Graduate Assistant Registration Requests (SGARS form) to register for fewer than 6 credits are up to the programs. If the adviser and supervisor sign off on the form, the DGS will approve it.
