Tri-Psych Diversity Committee

The Tri-Psych Diversity Committee is a cross-departmental committee of faculty representatives from the Department of Educational Psychology, Institute of Child Development, and Psychology diversity committees dedicated to supporting under-represented students studying psychology at the University. The charge of the committee is to:

  • Combine graduate students from under-represented groups from all three programs to provide a broader support group for graduate students.

  • Provide guidance to the undergraduate groups in the three psychology departments to support undergraduates from under-represented groups.

  • Identify the key places to send faculty to recruit students from underrepresented groups.

  • Align the departments' student recruitment dates for a special multi-department event for (self-defined) underrepresented students, targeting first generation college students, students of color, and students from low income families.

Once a year, the Tri-Psych Diversity Committee gives out a Tri-Psych Diversity Award. The goal of the fund is to build community and facilitate cross-departmental collaborations among Tri-Psych graduate students of color and/or student groups otherwise underrepresented in postsecondary education. The group looks for innovative proposals that provide opportunities to encourage and support students, gain insights from shared and differing experiences, and build stronger relationships across departments. Each department contributes $1,000 annually with the understanding that unused funds get carried over to the next year.

The president of the University of Minnesota chairs the University Senate, and the vice chair is a faculty member. all ex officio members are non-voting.

CEHD Professional and Administrative Council (CPAC) Representative to Senate

The P&A Senate is the voice of over 5,000 Academic Professionals and Administrators (P&A) at the University of Minnesota. The senate is an elected representative body that acts on behalf of all P&As, and enables P&As, through shared governance, to exercise their right to participate in the University's governance.

The senate is an advocate for P&A views on University planning, governance, resource allocation, and all other University of Minnesota policies and practices. We are key partners in University governance; to that end, the senate works in four primary areas: benefits and compensation, communications, outreach, and professional development and recognition, as well as providing representatives to relevant University committees and task forces.

P&As work in all 19 job families throughout the University system. P&A job functions include conducting research, teaching students, directing programs, counseling faculty, staff, and students, managing budgets, overseeing departments, and reaching out to citizens in all 87 Minnesota counties. In 1980, P&As comprised six percent of the University employee population. By 2014, P&A made up 30% of University employees.

All P&As are welcome to attend and participate in discussions at P&A Senate meetings.
