Abstract:
In contemporary pedagogical and psychological practice, there is an increasing need for methods of personal support that integrate emotional processing, symbolic self-expression, and the development of reflection. This need becomes especially relevant under conditions of heightened psycho-emotional burden, uncertainty, prolonged stress, and a broader crisis context, when individuals require a safe space to become aware of their experiences and restore inner balance. One such approach is the complex art therapy method «Catharsis», developed by Martha Antalfai, which is based on the integration of creative activity, symbolic thinking, relaxation, imagination, and attunement to the natural cycles of the year.
The aim of this article is to present the methodological potential of the complex art therapy method «Catharsis» in pedagogical and psychological work through the example of a winterthemed session structured around the symbolic and archetypal content of December. The article outlines the theoretical foundations of the method, its significance for the development of selfreflection and emotional regulation, and provides a detailed description of the session structure, the main stages of the creative process, and the possibilities for its application in group work with adults.
The presented methodological model demonstrates that the use of art-therapeutic elements contributes to the development of emotional sensitivity, the formation of internal resources, the strengthening of self-control, and the enhancement of awareness of one’s own experiences. The symbolic themes of the winter period, associated with images of silence, inner light, anticipation, and inner renewal, create favorable conditions for deepening contact with the inner world and supporting psycho-emotional stability.
