Abstract:
The article presents a comprehensive study of the formation of cultural-linguistic competence of senior school students based on phonetic and grammatical features of dialectal units. The relevance of the research is determined by the sociocultural transformations of contemporary Ukrainian society, the revival of regional identities, and growing attention to local cultural heritage.
Cultural-linguistic competence is defined as a complex integrative quality of the linguistic personality, encompassing cognitive, operational-activity, communicative-pragmatic, axiological, and sociocultural components. Dialectal variability is characterised as a natural systemic property of the national language.
Analysis of textbooks for grades 10–11 reveals a predominance of the lexico-stylistic approach: dialectal units are treated primarily as a device of literary expressiveness, while their phonetic and grammatical features receive no systematic attention. Eight methodological conditions for effective integration of dialectal material are substantiated. An original system of exercises structured into four functional-typological blocks – cognitive-analytical, transformational, communicative, and creative – is described and implemented across six lessons.
A pedagogical experiment conducted with 22 tenth-grade students at the Sosnivka Educational Complex, Konotop district, Sumy region, demonstrated substantial positive dynamics: the share of students with a high level of competence increased from 14 % to 41 %, the proportion of low-level students decreased from 41 % to 9 %, and the average test score rose from 58 % to 81 %. A shift in students’ attitudes towards dialectal speech – from perceiving it as «incorrect» to recognising its cultural value – was also recorded. Seven evidence-based methodological recommendations for teachers are formulated.
Keywords: cultural-linguistic competence, dialectal variability, phonetic and grammatical features of dialects, system of exercises, language education.
