Abstract:
The article analyzes the evolution of scientific views on the essence of aesthetic education in modern pedagogy. Based on an interdisciplinary approach, the content of the categories «education», «aesthetics» and «aesthetic» is revealed. The leading concepts are systematized – from the formation of aesthetic consciousness to the development of a holistic aesthetic culture of the individual. It is proven that the result of aesthetic education is the formed aesthetic culture of the individual, which is a fundamental component of his spiritual structure and determines value orientations in the conditions of modern sociocultural transformations.
In domestic pedagogical science, aesthetic education is traditionally considered as a purposeful process of forming a creatively active personality. Its essence lies in the development of a child’s ability to perceive, emotionally experience and professionally evaluate the manifestations of the beautiful, tragic, comic and ugly both in art and in everyday life. The ultimate goal of this process is recognized as the readiness of the individual to live and create "аccording to the laws of beauty. Summarizing the results of a retrospective analysis of scientific ideas about the essence of aesthetic education of the individual, we define its key indicator as the formation of the individual’s aesthetic culture. The latter appears as a fundamental component of the general and spiritual culture of a person, which determines his value orientations in the world around him. The problem of aesthetic education is pervasive in the history of philosophical and pedagogical thought: from ancient concepts of harmonious development to modern anthropocentric approaches, it is invariably considered as a strategic tool for the spiritual formation of the individual and the humanization of society.
