Sort the pull items by call number
Watch for items not in "mstax" and sort accordingly, e.g. ref, oversized, media circulating, etc.
The pull cart has a list of which call numbers are on which floor
AFN requests generally print already in order and may require little extra sorting
For each request (piece of paperwork)
Find the item in stacks using highlighted call number and handwritten notes
Be sure to pull the correct volume of a volume set; only pull the exact edition
Check that the paperwork title and item title match
Place paperwork in item
For loans, fold paper lengthwise and put in book
For scans, keep paperwork flat and place in book
Locate the article that the request is for and place the paperwork at the start of that article. If you can't find the article, pull the item anyways and bring it to a staff person.
If you cannot initially find an item, put the paperwork aside and finish the pull for that floor. Then search these areas (in descending order):
Overstock Room and/or any re-shelving carts nearby
Carts by the Check-In/ILL Borrowing Return Area
If you are still unable to locate the item(s) give the paperwork to an ILL staffer.
Pulling Media items from the DSC (Digital Scholarship Commons)
The only items that go out through Interlibrary Loan are DVDs, VHS, and occasionally the affiliated guides
Identify yourself to a Media Desk student, "I work at Interlibrary Loan, and I’m here to pull media items for these ILL requests."
Once the student has given the okay, go behind the Media Desk in the DSC to pull the items from the shelves
Ask the student at the desk if you have trouble finding an item
DVD
Find and pull the DVD from it's respective place on the shelf. If you have any questions the DSC desk staff are a valuable resource.
VHS
Pull the VHS tape out of its original case and put the case back on the shelf with the call number facing inward, not showing. Place the tape in a loaner plastic case, which are found behind the DSC Circ Desk.
Guide *Less Common Request*
Find the requested guide on the affiliated guide shelf — VHS, DVD, or in the case of some DVDs, on the DVD shelf alongside the DVD.
