Broken ISO Check Ins (VDX)
The goal of this task is to process UCSC owned items that have been returned to us by the borrowers.
The goal of this task is to process UCSC owned items that have been returned to us by the borrowers.
Sort out the VDX checkins from the AFNs as usual. There are no changes to how the AFNs are handled.
For the VDX checkins, scan each item’s ILL barcode. Click Details to look at the full record. If there is a note reading “BROKEN ISO”, set it aside. These will need to be updated singly both in VDX and in WorldShare.
The other VDX checkins that do not have this note may be checked in using the usual process.
1. Confirm that the book was affected by the August 25th incident
Look for a Private note in the Private notes section that starts with: BROKEN ISO
If there is no private note, start a book pile to review with ILL staff
2. Confirm that the title on the item, the paperwork and VDX all match.
Make sure the book is in reasonably good condition
Bad condition: wet/moisture damage, so much writing inside that it’s distracting, cover or pages coming off/out
If item is in bad condition, give to a staff member
1. Scan the item’s ILL barcode to bring up the VDX record
Copy the OCLC number and locate the record in WorldShare by pasting it into the "Request ID" field (shown below)
2. Click the "Edit ISO" button
You will be taken back to the OCLC home screen
Find the request again by clicking the hyperlinked OCLC number in the green box (or search the OCLC number again)
4. Click the "Checked-in/Complete" button (NOT the "Not Returned")
Action "Checked In" from the drop down menu in VDX
Add a PRIVATE NOTE describing what is being checked in (if not a single book)
Ex: "Checking in volumes 1-2"
Ex: "Checking in 1 DVD & 1 booklet"
Ex: "Checking in 2 DVDs in case"
2. Place VDX(and WorldShare)-checked-in items on the circulation check-in table
3. Place the returned paperwork in the shredder bin.
