This course is an accelerated course focusing on the properties and reactions of matter with emphasis on real world applications. Topics of concentration include scientific measurements, symbolic representation, properties and structure of matter, chemical reactions, and relationships between energy and matter. These concepts are developed through inquiry-based labs, demonstrations, problem solving, and other interactive enrichment activities. Mathematical skills through algebra are used in problem solving. Students are expected to work at an accelerated pace and additional topics will be addressed to better prepare students for college. A large emphasis is placed on lab experience in this class, therefore students are expected to complete independent work outside of class.
Recommend students earned a C or higher in Chemistry I and Completion of Algebra II. This course requires a summer assignment. College-prep, rigorous, math-intensive course with expectation to CLEP by the end of the spring semester.
