Definition: ISO/IEC 17025 is the recognized international standard for the technical competence of calibration and testing labs. Organizations will often inquire if our calibrations are “17025”. Calibrations coming directly out of our lab are generally 17025 calibrations (see Cal Lab for exceptions). Others that are included in our products from the factory (with few exceptions) are NOT.
Benefits (Why Bother?): It can be increasingly difficult to know who or what to trust. Using unbiased third-party standards and accrediting bodies are some of the means of demonstrating objective competence. “ISO/IEC 17025 enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate competently and generate valid results, thereby promoting confidence in their work both nationally and around the world.”
