Precision temperature devices do not experience degradation or loss of accuracy between the time of calibration and the date placed into service. Consequently, the calibration interval (typically set to annual) should begin on the date the instrument is placed into service rather than the calibration date as shown on the manufacturer’s calibration certificate or manufacturer’s certificate of compliance.
Some calibration certificates have a section that have the user fill in the date the device was placed into service. You can then decide your own calibration interval of when your device should be calibrated next based off of the Date Placed in Service. If you are unsure of when you should recalibrate your device, we typically advise an annual schedule.
