For the fourth Saturday in a row we departed during or after fresh snow in Summit. Like every meet so far, the day in Niwot started nicely, with sun and calm winds. During the 400s it suddenly got colder and then lightning forced a meet cancellation.
3200 - This was by far the most competitive 3200 in the State so far this year, with most of top runners from 4A and 5A schools racing. Josh ran with the front group until it split about half way through. He hung with the second group for another couple laps before slowing a bit in the last 600 meters. It's still been just 4 weeks of dedicated running for our Nordic skiers. A lot of improvement is on the horizon. Owen improved by 10 seconds from Columbine. Cooper improved by 25 seconds from Thunder Ridge and is now the 6th ranked Summit Freshman. Kabir ran his first ever High School track race and jumped back two events later, at the other extreme of the distance spectrum, to run the 100 meters.
4x800 - Josh Smith, Danny, Bodhi and Daniel placed 11th. It was Josh's first ever high school race and Danny, Bodhi and Daniel all beat their previous relay splits.
1600 - Doubling back from the 3200, Josh ran a strong race running with the leaders through 1350 meters. It is still early in the season and this is a good step. Cain took almost 2 full seconds off his PR set at Columbine. John ran almost two seconds faster than at Thunder Ridge and in the process beat his PR from last year. Malachi took over 6 seconds off his PR set just two weeks ago at Thunder Ridge. Danny and Bodhi ran in their first ever high school school 1600s. Teamwork works, as Cain with John - and Danny with Bodhi - pushed each other and finished a tenth of a second from each other.
400 - Carter took over a second off his PR with a new mark of 54.44. Cain took over 10 second off his PR went under 60 with his 58.55. Josh Smith and Danny ran their first ever 400s.
800 - Cancelled due to lightning and rain/hail.
3200 - Lily ran a huge 41 seconds faster than her season opener at Columbine, with which she set a 1-second PR over last year's best at Teddy's Last Chance. Sophie ran 6 seconds faster than Thunder Ridge for a new PR.
4x800 - Ashley, Cece, Lila and Avery ran our second fastest 4x800 of the year for 7th place and Summit's first points in the meet.
1600 - Cece really went for it in the 1600, going straight to the lead of her heat and gaining a 15-meter gap on the pack. Her effort gained her a 32-second season best!! Lila improves every race this year, with a 12 second PR compared to Thunder Ridge. Ella ran 8 seconds faster than her opener at Columbine, while Avery improved by over 16 seconds from Thunder Ridge to go under 6:00 for the first time this year. Ashley opened up her 2025 1600 racing with Summit's second fastest time of the day. Sophie ran her first ever high school 1600 after earlier running the 3200 and finished just a second over 6:00.
400 - Ella, Elsie and Avery ran their first 400s of the season to work on their speed and placed near the top of the SHS season times.
800 - Cancelled due to lightning and rain/hail.
Summit Distance continues to rack up the PRs. After 5 PRs at Columbine, 10 at Thunder Ridge and 9 at Broomfield, we set another 18 PRs at Niwot – even with the 800s being cancelled. The work is slowly paying off.
Both girls in the 3200 and all six girls in the 1600 set new season bests or personal records. 2 Boys in the 3200, 5 boys in the 1600, and 4 in the 400 set new PRs.

Below is our practice schedule for this week, but checking the weather forecast, I anticipate there will be changes. Depending on how much it snows, Tuesday's meet at Battle Mountain probably WILL be postponed or cancelled and we will then likely do a workout instead, probably on rec center treadmills.
Late Breaking - Battle Mountain is cancelled - and I still anticipate a treadmill workout day.
Monday - Morning Speed Development and Lift, Afternoon Aerobic Run
Tuesday - Battle Mountain or Threshold Intervals (likely at Rec Centers)
Wednesday - Morning Easy Run and Lift, Moderately Long Aerobic Run
Thursday - Morning Easy Run and Lift, CV Intervals
Friday - Pre-Race
Saturday - Holy Family (Will attempt to set new school records in the girls and boys DMRs.)
