Summit Daily article - 2022/4/9: Hagen shatters girls 1600-meter meet record by 23 seconds
It was a busy week! Three meets – the re-scheduled Columbine, Jack and Jill Relay races and D'Evelyn – all at Jeffco Stadium. Distance highlights:
Jonah ran his first high school races at the Columbine Invite. (He was the only distance runner sent.) Despite the fierce winds he ran a very good 2:25.46 800 and came back a few minutes later to run a 26.95 200. Jonah stepped into 15th place in the Summit Junior 800 rankings.
The Jack and Jill Relays was a fun relays only, co-ed only meet for underclassmen and JV runners. Even the throws were scored relay style - the distances of two boys and two girls were combined into one team score. There was no official timing. All the times mentioned here are my questionably accurate hand timing.
Paige led off the 4x800 in 3:03, which would be a new PR if official. Cece followed in a 2:52, which would also be a PR. Austin and James then followed with 2:46s. Bryce ran a 6:23 in the 1600 leg of the Distance Medley Relay, which would also be a PR. In the 1600, James and Austin fought it out the whole race, with a few lead changes in the last lap. James just edged out Austin in ~ 6:17.7 to 6:18.1. (Pretty much as fast as my thumb could move on the stopwatch.) Cece ran a solid 6:37 in her third race of the meet in quick succession. Following the meet, Bryce ran a solo 400 to see what he could do on a rubber track and ran a solid 1:11. There were a lot of other good performances, but I'm not sure my results are correct.
D'Evelyn - The distance runners PR'd in 8 out of 9 races! The big Jeffco Stadium scoreboard flashed "NEW MEET RECORD" twice for Summit runners!! The article by Cody Jones in the Summit Daily covers it well, but here are the highlights:
Ella shaved a few tenths off her school record and also broke the meet record by almost 23 seconds, winning by 30 seconds. She holds her 3rd place in the 4A State rankings.
Niamh PR'd by 2 seconds in the 1600, bringing her time down to 6:35.95. Niamh fought through the fatigue following in her first high school 800, for a thus new PR of 3:11.72.
Dom had a rough 1600, but came back with renewed determination in the 800 to win, PR and set another meet record! He was so close to going sub-2 in 2:00.10. A lot of good times were recorded this week, so despite improving his time, Dom fell in the rankings to 18th, right on the cusp of State qualifying. Taking another 1.5 seconds off his time should lock him into State.
Lucas continues to improve and set a couple new PRs every meet. He improved by a second in the 1600 and by a big 3.5 seconds in the 800. He is definitely learning how to race!
Jacob ran his first ever 1600 and set a solid benchmark of 6:32.64.
Did I miss anything??
