DISTANCE RESULTS:
That means 6 girls going to State (because we get 2 alternates.) That's already twice as many as went last year!
Awesome runs by Ella, Cece, Faith and Lauren knocking down a 10:15.39 4x800 (the 9th fastest SHS time) to secure a State Qualifying time. There aren't time standards for State. Simply the top 18 fastest times (or heights/distances) qualify for State. The qualifying time last year was 10:20.48 and in 2021 it was 10:28.9. The 10:15.39 is almost certainly land within the top 18 times at the end of the season.
PRs Saturday by Lauren and Ella in the 400 for second and third. PRs by Will and James in the 400, too! Victory for Ella in the 800. Big PRs for Will, Carter and James in the 800. Another PR for Josh in the 3200 for second place.
At Steamboat we will aim to qualify the girls SMR, the boys 4x800 and the girls 4x400. If we do that, at Leagues we can focus on individual events and the boys 4x400.
BIG CHANGES IN THE SHS TRACK RANKINGS:
The copious big PRs at the Titan Invite and Glenwood Springs greatly rewrote the SHS class and all-time rankings. Take a look at these marks:
800
Will - moves from 10th to 4th on All time list, 3rd Sophomore
Carter - moves from 17th to 14th All time, 3rd Freshman
Lauren - 5 second PR puts her at 7th fastest SHS ever and 4th fastest Freshman
Ella - 1 second season best puts her at 2nd all-time and 1st Sophomore
1600
Dom - 2 second Season Best and 2nd Senior and all-time
Josh - in debut 2023 1600 is 3rd All time, 2nd Sophomore
Will - moves from 10th to 6th all-time, 5th Sophomore
Carter - moves from 15th to 12th fastest SHS all time, 6th to 3rd Freshman
Cain - moves up to 20th all time at SHS and from 10th to 6th Freshman
Lauren - moves up from 7th to 5th all time and 3rd Freshman
3200
Josh - 4 second PR keeps him at 3rd all-time SHS and 2nd fastest Sophomore
You may well have made some entries on the SHS 400-meter rankings, too! Since the 400 isn't considered a "distance event", I never developed top 20 lists for it. After Glenwood Springs, I think I may have to, because distance runners may be all over them! ☺

Distance highlights:
It was a small crew for us with many people already departed in Spring Break. For those that did attend, it was a great meet with great weather and many excellent performances. James, Adaline and Ella ran their first high school 400s and set down some good marks for the long sprint.
Paige placed 18th in her first 1600 of the season in 6:49.02 and then just off her PR in the 800 in 3:06.95 for 17th place.
Adaline ran a PR of 6:16.97 in the 1600 for 7th place. She followed up with a 1:14.29 400m for 16th place. A few minutes later she ran her third race of the day, the 800, in 2:54.22 for 11th place.
Ella ran 1:04.91 in the 400 for 4th and followed with a 4 second PR of 2:20.95 in the 800 for 3rd.
James also ran three races in just his third track meet. He started with the 1600 in 6:19.99 for 34th place, then a PR in the 400 in 1:06.90 for 33rd place and finished up with another PR in the 800 in 2:54.07 and 35th place. That's a nice training day!
Lucas started with a swift opening lap in the 1600 after an excellent start and positioning on the rail. He gradually slowed and finished a couple seconds off his PR in 5:26.00 for 12th place. He wasn't going to have a track meet this season without a PR though, and knocked 1 second off his best 800 time in 2:22.07, good for 11th place.
