Conditions for distance running were ideal and the distance TEAM capitalized in a big way. The 4x800 relays are still warming up, but the boys knocked over a minute off previous times to set a new season best of 8:59 for 4th and 5 points.
In the 1600, Avery set a big new 6" PR, earned 2024 Summit Milers Club status and moved up to 8th on the Summit All Time List. All four girls, all in different heats, ran new PRs - Lily by a huge 18", Ashley 7" and Lila the biggest of all - 25"! Lily and Ashley are now 11th and 12th on the All Time list and getting close to Summit Milers Club status.
The boys nearly matched the girls with two PRs (John 3" and Malachi 10") and a season best (Cain .3"). Unfortunately Carter sprained his ankle in the warm up, in a dare say "boys being boys" hurdling attempt. That ended his day after a very strong leg in the 4x800. Hopefully Carter is back for Niwot. John and Malachi are now 15th and 25th on the All Time List. John is just 4" from joining the Milers Club.
A few hours later (it was a big meet - over 2,300 entries) the girls set three PRs in the 800. Avery led the way and Ashley, Darby and Cora all set new PRs. Lukas set a big new PR and moved up to 5th on the Freshman list.
After the sun set the girls returned for the 3200. Lily led the way followed by Adaline in a huge 25" PR and Cece in another huge PR of 21". Adaline jumped 12 spots to 12th on the All Time list and Cece moved up to 17th All Time.
Jay was our lone entry (after Carter's withdrawal) in the 3200 and made the most of his debut two miler. He started off aggressively, perhaps a bit too hot, and dug deep to hold the pace best he could. He was rewarded with a 10:11 for 8th place. Debutting at #5 on the Summit All Time List and fastest ever Freshman. Not a bad start. That time should put him near the top of the State Freshmen 3200 ranks.
14 hours after loading the busses, the 4x400s started. Darby, Lila, Cora and Claire were rewarded for their long days with our best time of the season. John, Malachi, Lukas and Jay capped off the meet with our second fastest 4x400 of the year.
Those that ran under the lights were rewarded with a stop at In-and-Out and a slumber in the mini-bus the rest of the way back to Summit.
Along with Jay's 8th in the 3200, the boy's distance TEAM scored 6 of Summit's 8 points.
The Distance TEAM set a total of 13 PRs and 5 season bests!

Dillon Benbow posted a bunch of great photos here. Everyone is invited to post their photos. The upload folder will be the same all season. I'll move the photos into subfolders for each meet. Below are just a few.
These are my hand times. They aren't exact - especially the 200m splits. The final times are usually about a half second less than the official times, due to reaction time to the gun firing. Sometimes more if I was surprised by the gun. Most of the discrepancy in time from the official results should normally be added to the first split.
Spend a little time reviewing them and thinking about your race. Was your start too slow or too fast, did you slow down too much after the half, did you have too much left and finish too strong - with speed that could have been divvied up over previous laps?

We scratched this meet due to lack of bus transportation when the meet was moved up to Friday to avoid bad weather on Saturday. Too bad, Friday was a very nice day and there were a lot of fast times.
