Summit Daily Article: Summit track and field team braves wind at Erie Twilight Invitational; places 10th in team rankings
That was a windy day! While walking onto the field, the high jump pit blew across the track. That did not portend well for the day.
Despite that, everyone raced superbly! You stayed determined and positive despite the conditions. That’s a key step to being a champion.
Almost everyone PR’d and/or won their event. There were several HUGE PR’s! The Freshmen raced great, both those with a few meets under their belts and those for whom it was the first meet of their high school careers - or ever! Freshmen’s first races definitely count as PR’s!! 😀
The wind was a steady 20+ miles per hour, with many gusts into the 40 mph range. I think it safe to say the wind was worth at least two seconds a lap. Take that into consideration when looking at the results

Summit Daily article - 2022/4/2: Summit track and field relay team defeats 31-year-old record at Erie Twilight
Distance highlights:
Dominykas ran a nearly 3-second PR in the 3200 of 9:51.03. That moves him to within 11 seconds of the all-time SHS 3200 record of 9:40.89 run by Liam Meirow in 2014. Dom now has the fastest 800, 1600 and 3200 times ever run by a Summit Junior!
Lucas, a Senior but in his first ever season of running ran his first 3200, in just his third ever meet, in 12:14.31. That gives him the 8th fastest Senior 3200 and 16th fastest overall SHS 3200.
Ella ran 11:12.25 for the win in her first ever 3200, placing her 2nd on the all-time SHS list and within 9 seconds of the all-time SHS girls 3200 record of 11:03.61 by Whitney Anderson in 2005 in winning the 2005 Colorado State Championship.
Adaline ran 6:17.12, establishing a strong mark in her first high school 1600 that places her 7th in the SHS all-time Sophomore ranks. She also ran the 800 a couple hours later in 2:54.48, just off her PR set at Rifle.
Cece ran 6:26.65 in the 1600, a few seconds off her Fort Collins time, but came back to set a new PR of 2:55.74 in her first 800 of the 2022 season. That places her 14th in the SHS Freshman rankings.
Paige ran a new season's best (and PR in her MileSplit records) of 3:05.35, an almost 4 second improvement from a week ago. It moves her up to 13th in the SHS Junior 800 rankings.
Niamh ran 14:38.06 in the 3200, a couple seconds off her unofficial time from Fort Collins (Fort Collins 3200 times weren't complete) for a new official PR. That places her 8th in the official SHS Freshman 3200 rankings.
Updated SHS distance rankings by class and all-time are here.
