Foundation of Art

This year has been a difficult year and I have had a unique experience. I have learned a lot in the area of art, and have learned so much about the use of different art tools. The number of ways that I have learned to create are very new and interesting to me, I have never gotten into art so much like this year. I started the year with very little knowledge. Knowledge about art supplies, techniques, lines, space, color, and the principles of art—contrast, repetition, unity, movement, balance, and emphasis. For example, my color combination looked softer and more comfortable to me. I have also gained knowledge and experience on expressing my art ideas by writing the artist statements. I learned to write down the process of art and the usage of materials. It’s interesting to me to see the interactions between materials and ideas during the process of making the project. Overall, my art shows the process of how I learned to use the elements of art from the beginning to the continuing of art. I have overcome many challenges this year. From developing an idea, to putting my idea to live, and to expressing my idea. I’m not afraid that challenges will come up during the process of making a project, I’m actually looking forward to it. I believe that it’s how I learn, I learn from overcoming challenges. It’s also significant to me that I overcame those challenges, it represents a major part of this course and process. The Challenge that comes up during my experience in the course is the fact that things change. I might not like my idea anymore on the second day, limited materials, result not turning out great, and I just don’t feel like working with art that day. These are challenging to me because I have to come up with new solutions that allow me to create a piece that I like. It was a process of trying to come up with a plan and management in areas of art. To conclude, I am proud of every artwork that I have created this year. I believe that they represent the process of development and my ability to manage things. I’m proud that I have gone through the year successfully since this is a year that has gone “wild” and different. I know that if things were more normal and easy for school, there would be more inspirations and ideas in creating art. This is also my weakness when I work with art, I have difficulties finding things that influence me and coming up with ideas. I find that I’m better at realistic and realistic drawing. I find myself struggling more with expressing myself in an abstract way. Therefore, I find my art performance skills to be more unstable, and unbalanced. As an example, I found some of my pieces to have less meaning and color to them, compared to some that have significant meanings and are more interesting to look at.
