Perspective of a Dog

Acrylic Paint

9" x 12"

Artist Statement

In this piece, I was given a blank paper with a black line with a "blob" at the end. The line inspired me to paint a mountain(horizontally), but when I thought about it more; I felt a mountain would be too boring to draw. Therefore, I tried to turn the paper vertical to see if I can get new ideas, a dog came to my mind. The line shaped like the side perspective of a dog.

The tools I used was acrylic paint, brushes, and pencil. I decided to use acrylic paint because I thought it would bring more vivid feeling to the dog. So instead of using pencil, presenting a black and white piece; I decided to bring some color into it.

To begin this piece, I build off of the black line/"blob". I first sketch out the outline of the dog, the collard, eye, and the nose with pencil. Then I went in and filled the background. Next, I went for the details of the dog, for example, the eyes, nose, and collard. Lastly, I painted the color of the dog with it's ears in. This piece was my first acrylic piece in the class.
