Blossom

12" x 10"

Color Pencil, graphite pencil, and liner

Artist Statement

This piece of art is called "Blossom", it shows the blossom of a heart. I was influenced by a thought that I had, "even stones will grow green". When I learned about organ and tissue donation, I never realized that there's another opportunity for my organ or tissue to regrow and blossom after death. Therefore, this art that I created shows a heart taken out of a girl's body and grows green on it. Meaning that it's renewing.

In this artwork, I used an H pencil to sketch. Then I used a liner to bold out the lines, making it easier to see and making it clean. Next, I started the coloring step. I used colored pencils to draw in the colors. After that, I cut out the drawings and glued them onto a separate piece of paper. Lastly, I wrote out the sentences on the piece.

I began this piece by sketching out the girl with an H pencil, beginning with her head, body. Then, I moved on to her hair and the flower. Next, I used a liner to outline the sketch, making every line clear and easy to see; making it easier for me to draw in color. I started coloring the simple sections of the piece, like the clothing and skin tone. Next, I went for the flower, I used the same skin tone color pencil that I did for the girl to blend the color with it red; making the pedals more dramatic and fun to see. Lastly, I colored the hair with shades of grey. I layer the grey tones for the hair, I started with the lightest and moved on to the darker tones if needed. To finish, I set the pieces on to a piece of paper and glued it on.
