Artist Statement

In this piece named "Present", I used negative space method to create the artwork. I formed five negative space with more than eight leaves and created the art off of the shapes. I got this Christmas themed idea by noticing the shape at the bottom right corner, I thought it was similar to an elf. Therefore, I decided to add on to the elf component that I had with Christmas elements. I thought it would look cute with the color theme of Christmas.

In this piece of art, I used leaves that I picked up from the ground outdoor. Then I used an H graphite pencil and a ruler to mark out the negative spaces. I soon darken and outlined the space with a Sakura liner. Last, I filled watercoloring on the paper.

In this art, the first thing I did was to think about the idea of present/Christmas and what I need to add into this piece. Next, used my Christmas theme idea to decide what each negative space I'm drawing and begin sketching with a H pencil. Then, I outlined the sketch with a black liner; to make the line more obvious and thick. Last, I filled watercoloring on the paper. I began watercoloring the big areas, for example, the tree. Then adding on to the details and background last.
