Artist Statement

This art piece is an art piece inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci and Claude Monet. Leonardo Da Vinci was a painter and engineer during 1450s - 1500s, he was inspired by human anatomy and physiology; had deep understanding in birds. On the other hand, Claude Monet was a French painter during 1850s - 1900s. Claude Monet was the founder of French Impressionist painting, he's art focused in the light effects and nature forms in the scene.

In this art work, I used watercolor to paint the piece in the corner to represent the inspiration from Monet. The I created all the work and notes in the blank space, referring to Leonardo Da Vinci's notebook. I used color pencil to color the sketch of the Swan.

For this work, I first started with the watercoloring on the top left corner. In the watercoloring, I layered and layered backgrounds; trying to create the clear water waves. Then, I used white paint to draw strips in the back; trying to create the natural lighting reflected on the water. Next, it was the note section, something that was special and interesting about the notes was that all of the writings were mirrored. This was also what Leonardo Da Vinci did in his notebook, mirror writing was a technique that he used to prevent people from stealing his work.
