Artist Statement

For the creation of this piece, I was influenced by a fantasy video. I saw a mirror that was made out of colorful gem, therefore I came up with this piece. Showing a mirror locked up in the darkness. I used a total of 84 colors in the mirror, using all of the shades and tints of primary, secondary, and tertiary.

In this piece, I used a 2H graphite pencil to sketch out the mirror and content. Then I used acrylic paint to draw in the color. For each primary, secondary, and tertiary color; I mixed 3 shades and 3 tints out of them, making a total of 84 colors. Something that was important that I found while doing this painting, is that the size of the paintbrush that I use. Using the right size of brushes would actually help a lot compared to using only one kind of brushes. It fills in the details that are needed.

I started this painting by sketching out the oval of the mirror. Then I went for the chains and stems around the mirror, adding more content to the piece. Then I started to fill up the background and others except for the colorful mirror. I first began with the shades, putting it closer to where the stem came out of the broken area; moving the colors to tint. Lastly, I switched to a smaller brush to add in the details and those colors that weren't filled enough.
