tiles

for this project we created four or more tiles with the idea of them being put together like tiles on a floor. they had to have at least one layer with different elevation and while many people did two or more i only did one, because my design, while complex, simply looked better with only one layer. we first created one tile, waited for it to harden, and then put it into plaster. this created a plaster mold where we could then copy the design exactly, by putting clay into the mold. and when that was all finished and the tiles had been fired, we glazed them. i opted for a green/dark teal and gold contrast between the base and the top layer to make it look fancier, especially with the gold, which i felt reflected the design on the tile. i specifically made the design for the tiles so that they would look complete any way you arrange them. this was a struggle however, because i actually messed up my original tile unknowingly, so that meant that the tiles didn't connect flawlessly. i also waited a bit too long to make the plaster mold so there ended up being air bubbles in my mold, making the process of copying tiles a lot harder and longer. but, in the end i still think the project was a success and that the tiles still look pretty good together, even if it isn't perfect.
