Sgraffito Tile

For this project I created a sgraffito tile, and in the process I learned how to use the slab roller. I rolled out my slab, traced my tile, and put on a green underglaze. I traced my design onto my slab and carved out the negative space for my frog design. I wanted my frogh to be green, so I carved out the background. Once my slab was bone dry, It was fired in the kiln. After that I put on an overglaze and it was fired once more. My final project is a carving of frog in a suit, inspired by the Frog and Toad book series. I am proud of my final product, especially because this was the first thing I made all year with clay. One thing that I struggled with was carving out the small lines, but this could have easily been fixed with a different carving tool. Overall, I am happy with my piece.
