Artist Inspired Project

For this project, we made a piece inspired by our research project. We took any aspect or technique we liked from the artist and applied it to our own work. Unlike my historical pot, I had the freedom to choose any artist instead of trying to replicate another pot. I was inspired by the artist Rebecca Chappel who in some of her artwork made baskets and vases of all shapes and sizes. She incorporates holes in her artwork, which I have done to mine. I created a strawberry fruit basket that has similar dimensions to the kind you would get when you go strawberry picking. To make this piece I cut out a template to trace onto a slab. The template looked like a plus sign, so when I folded up the sides it resembled a box. I added a rim, cut out holes, and glazed my pot to get the finished piece. Something that I struggled with was making all of the edges smooth, but I used the burnishing technique to get my desired look. Overall, I like how closely my pot resembled to a real-life ombect.
