Charcoal & ink on pastel paper

Artist Statement

The main idea of this project was my uncle's dog. It's a picture of him up close of his face of him standing on my step. Once I had chose this picture to use for this project I edited it so it was the right black & white I wanted.

For the materials used on this project I used black charcoal & white charcoal in different forms, a charcoal eraser, & an ink pen.

The first thing I did before using charcoal on this project was gridding it so I was able to go square by square. Then I started in the top left corner & went all the way across, then down a level & all the way across again trying to match size & tone in each square. I used a stub of black charcoal & rubbed it all the way across all the squares in that row, then blended it so I had a base which I could then add light spots or dark spots or different kinds of lines for texture. There wasnt a specific material I used for different parts of my piece I kinda just used everything everywhere except for the ink pen which was specifically for his wiskers.
