Artist Statement

The main idea that carried this work was drawing realistic candy. To make it look realistic your colors need to be chosen wisely because you use many different colors of many different tints so you can make more realistic shading instead of all black shading. Shading also takes time & layering of colors to make it accurate.

The materials I used were colored pencils, graphite pencil & bristol board paper. I used to graphite for first drafts of outlines, lettering & shapes because its light & erasable. I used a lot of different colored pencils but mostly brown for my snickers & red for most of my starburst.

The first step I took in this project was putting small points on my paper trying to figure out if the dimensions would make it look accurate & to size. After I had a some points plotted that represented where i would start & finish lines or corners I started to make straight lines like the edges of the pieces of candy with 2h pencil. I had everything penciled out except for the small details I would only do with colored pencil later, I started to layer colors on trying to see which spots needed to be a slight bit lighter or darker. Finally once I had all the first layer colors I went back to make some parts darker & make shadows with pencil.
