Artist statement-

The main idea that carried this project a picture of myself.  This picture I took in the hallway of the school with a white wall background which I then turned the picture black & white.

The only materials I used for this project was 2h, hb, 2b, 4b, & 6b pencils. I used these materials each for different darks or lights for shading. Once I had drawn lines & filled in a square I also used my tortillion to smoothen out some parts.

Going square by square for this project I started in the top left making my way across the first row then down to the second. One square at a time using my 2h pencil for the lightest shading then 6b for the darkest. I used a B pencil to make darker streaks in my hair, under my chin, my nostrils, & other small sections like my pupils, occasional freckles & outlines to make the light areas. For most the rest I used hb & 2h as the light shades like my hair but also my face. Lastly throughout the project I used my tortillion to blend my pencil & make it look not so streaky.
