The prompt was Life on Mars, which is the main idea for the painting. The prompt help guide my painting. Instead of drawing a realistic version, I decided to add curiosity and adventure. This all comes along when exploring a new planet. When I was creating this drawing, I decided to add bright green holes and small aliens. The sky appears purple as well. The purple and green accents add subtle mystery, from purple which is dark, and green which is vibrant. I was trying to demonstrate that things aren't always as they seem, especially in new territory.

This artwork was made out of an abundance of materials. The main material was colored pencils. I used it for almost the entire drawing. I used graphite pencils for the sketching phase, and sharpies as well.

My process consisted of 3 different phases. I started with a sketch using a light graphite pencil. I sketched the outline of the planet and sky and the smaller details such as the craters, aliens, cracks, and asteroids. My second phase was coloring it in. I used my colored pencils to shade and add color. The last phase was the sharpie. I used the Sharpie to outline and add finishing touches.

Artsonia Response: Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my artwork was the prompt Life on Mars. I was going to keep it somewhat similar and draw a planet. To add my own ideas I added craters that glow green. I also added aliens and a purple sky.
