Construction paper and magazine clips

Acyrlic on Canvas

The main idea that guided this artwork was the cutout magazine clips. They inspired my painting as I based it off them. I went for a dark theme with gold and ancient accents, which I color matched and copied. This theme is further developed with the black umbrella and hearts along with mirror, yet then it contrasts with the ancient patterns, clouds, and brick wall. I wanted to have two parts of this theme, versus one overarching one.

I used different materials for both paintings. For the first paper collage I used construction paper, cutouts, and magazine clips. For the second one I used paint and canvas.

To create this artwork I started with the brainstorming phase, I had to choose what colors I wanted to do and the magazine clips. I had to cut out each clip from the magazines and glue them onto the paper. Afterwards I had to paint collage. I started with sketching them out, then mixing the colors. It took a while to make sure they are somewhat similar. I then started with the background, moving onto the midground, then the foreground. I ended with small details.
