Graphite on Pastel Portrait

This main idea for this artwork was realism, meaning looking like a reality, precise. For this to be a realistic drawing I had to focus on shading and eliminating outlines. I decided to draw a mask on my portrait because it was more realistic, that's how I would look every day. Another main idea that guides this portrait was me. I based this on a selfie. I wanted to do myself in the present day so I could compare to what I actually look like.

The materials for this was mostly graphite on pastel paper. I used eares and masking tape for the border.

I created this by leading up with practicing a value strip and shading. I then started with gridding my photo along with my final paper. I matched it up and paid very close attention trying to be realistic as possible. I went grid by grid for mostly the entire artwork. Near the bottom half, I began to do more boxes at a time. I used an eraser to add highlights along with the white space. To inspire each other, we walked around the room to see everyone else's. I decided to not use an extra element, like glasses or another form of perspective.
