Negative Space Drawings
These drawings were all inspired by negative space. When looking at the Zentangle negative space was used to create a greyscale. My artwork didn't successfully portray one, but it helped me use the use of white space to add depth and shade. The more white space the lighter the shade. The less white space the darker the shade. In Hands drawing I used negative space to create a silhouette. The shading represents the space around the hand. This drawing helped me learned how to create shapes while only drawing negative space. For my final project, I utilized negative space. I used negative space when drawing the leaves. I drew the paper around the leaves. This created what you see now. I paid very close attention to detail, and it came out accurate. With the negative space, I drew a landscape. It has flowers, a river, fields, and a sky. This space helps shape the leaves.
These works were made out of an abundance of materials. Graphite pencils ranging from2H to 6B, sharpie, watercolor, and colored pencils.
The Zentangle art process was quite simple. I had no research and I brainstormed ideas until I found my pattern design.
The silhouette process included no additional research (except for videos in class) My ideas were based on my hand movements. After my hand positions, I moved on to drawing and finishing the piece.
My thought process for the main project was a bit more extensive. I started with arranged my leaves which took time. I had to make sure there were 5 closed spaces. After I finished tracing the leaves, I had to brainstorm a landscape. I went through many possibilities until I figured out that I wanted to do a field with stream and flower scenery.
