Charocal and Ink on Paper

The main idea that drove this charcoal artwork was my rabbit! She is named Juniper, and I've had her for 2 years. I chose a photo that I took myself in her home. She is sitting on a pillow, the background is wood, with a slight fabric to the right. Since I based my artwork on my rabbit, I had to make sure it resembled her. This artwork is realistic, as I was attempting to achieve a familiar drawing to the photo. Realism has to be precise and accurate.

The materials I used for this drawing were black charcoal, white charcoal, black and white pencil charcoal, ink, ink pen, ink brush, and kneaded erasers.

To create this artwork the process was quite long. We first practiced with the value strip. Using each material, we created a blended strip, ranging from dark to light. This was used to familiarize with the materials. The next step was to print out a photo and add grids. The photo was a real picture of what we wanted to draw. We then had to scale it, that way it fits on our large paper accurately. We added scaled grids on the real paper too. After this, I taped the border and began! I tried not to outline as I shaded and blended. I focused square by square until it was finished.
