For this art project, our focus was a negative space drawing. A negative space drawing is instead of focusing on the positive space for example a tree, you draw the tree based on what you see in the out line. The tree will be white, but the background, negative space, is filled in in color. For this drawing, we picked leaves from outside and tape them down on a small piece of paper. The requirements for this project were to have five spots of negative space, and to enlarge our leaves. Tracing the leaves was the hardest part of the whole project for me, reason one being to get the shapes and lines looking accurate and realistic, and enlarging the leaves not only making sure they are in the correct places but that they are enlarged as well. Once the leaves were drawn to the correct scale, I started coloring my negative space. Since we had used leaves I wanted to incorporate fall colors. I used orange, yellow, red, and green pigment water color, to color in the negative spaces. Once the paint was dry I used simple designs like I used in my zentangles in brown sharpie. I used a brown sharpie because I wanted it to almost look like tree bark. Overall, I am very proud of my negative space leave drawing, but if I were to change one thing, I would have tried to make my leaves look a little bit more realistic.
