Independent Final Project

For our final project of Foundations of Art I we could choose any of the units we had done this year to create a final project. For my final project I decided to do our unit about blind contour. The reason why I chose to do blind contour was because I really enjoyed this project that we did at the beginning of the year, but I didn't like my outcome. I played around with a couple ideas and drawing before I decided to chose my final design. I decided to create 5 faces that represented each emotion, because I really thought it would be cool to give the emotions a warped and abstract kind of look. The emotions I chose to draw were Happiness, Sadness, Envy, Anger, and Fear. The reason why I chose these 5 is because these play a role in a students mind everyday, and I thought it would be cool to have a deeper meaning in my artwork. First I started by drawing my blind contour faces. I had two side views 9red and green) and three frontal views. Next I chose what each emotion each face would represent, I did this by looking at certain features of each face. The materials I used for this project were watercolors and a sharpie, fir my blind contour faces. For the background I knew I wanted to do some sort of splatter paint, but after some brain storming I decided to drip the water colors down my page to give it more of an abstract vibe. This was the most challenging part of my whole process, because I had to make sure I got none on my faces. I taped them off at first but when I took off the tape it looked weird how the lines just stopped in some places. I was risky and carefully dripped the paint around my faces filling the negative space. Overall I am very happy with the final outcome of my independent final project because it has a deeper meaning to it and I think it looks really cool and intriguing.
