Extended Gelatin Leaf Print

For this art project we made gelatin prints. The first part of this project was to make the prints. We were instructed to make three prints in each set, the first is the negative space print. The negative space prints is when you put all your objects, including leaves, on the ink. Once this is done you gently press down a piece of print paper and rub. Once you can see the outline of your gelatin, pull up your piece of paper. The next print is the positive space. For this print all you have to do is take off the objects and put a new piece of paper on the gelatin. Once you take the paper off the gelatin, the print will be the positive space of the leaves. The final print is called the ghost print. By now most of your ink will be off the gelatin. All you have to do is press the paper down on the gelation one last time to collect the rest of the ink. This print is always very faint and sometimes no patterns come up. Once we made three sets of prints we chose one to pick and extended. I chose â…” from my last set. This drawing was a positive space print, and it had netting and flowers in the print. So when I extended it, I choose to do patterns like the netting and the draw vines of flowers around the outside. I chose the colors green, yellow, and a light pink in colored pencil and started to color in all my sketches. The most difficult part of this whole entire project was figuring out how to create the pattern for the netting and putting it in the right proportions. Overall I am I guess pretty happy with my overall result, but if I were to change one thing, I would make the netting more in proportion to the netting in my print.
