Duck Stamp

This unit we focused on matching and blending color. We were given the option to create a pixilated images drawing only by the color of the pixels. The other choice was to create a realistic scientific drawing of a duck for the Duck Stamps competition. I decided to choose the Duck Stamps because I wanted to work on the blending of color, and work on matching a drawing to a reference. I was given the list of different duck I could draw and I chose the ruddy duck. Originally, I was also going to do the snow goose, but I decided just to do a ruddy duck because I thought it would turn out more realistic. The reason why I chose the ruddy duck was because I really like the color of the beak and the tail feathers. The final requirement for this project was the material we had to use were oil pastels. I starting first by outlining both of my ducks in pencil. Then, I started to add the color to the duck. This was the most challenging part because using oil pastels and trying to get detailed lines is really hard since they're so thick. Anther thing that was challenging about using oil pastels was blending the colors because you have to add so many layers. In the end I am very happy with how this project turned out. I feel as though I really matched my drawing to my references and focused on the certain aspects of the species. If I were to change one thing about this project it would be to add one more layer to the water.
