For this project we were given a blank piece of white paper with a few black ink spots. Our project was to create something, anything that came to us, whether it reminded us of something or if is was completely abstract. For my drawing I chose to draw a dalmation. When I saw one of the ink spots I immediately saw a cartoon dog nose. When I started drawing the body there were lots of little black dots in the middle of my body, so I decided to use this to my advantage and instead of drawing just a plain dog I drew a dalmation. For materials I used colored pencils and a black pen to make my dalmation spots stand out. At first my dog was very small and colorless. I changed my dog’s size to fill the page more, because it was the center of the project. My artwork changed again when I added color into my drawing and scene in the background, (a dog sitting in the grass with a clear blue sky.) The reason I chose my dog to be sitting in the grass was because I wanted the drawing to be calm and relaxed. The story behind this artwork or at least I imagine, is the dog looking at a squirrel deciphering whether or not to chase it. I drew the eye looking off the page so you can create a your own story by looking at it. One thing that I am not proud of in this project is my dog’s legs. I wanted them to look more realistic and less cartoonish. In the future I would work harder to try and draw them more realistic. Otherwise I am very happy with my project and would love to do something like this again!
