Message from Quinn on 1/22
Good Morning, Staff
I have been working on a protocol for situations in which students are sent out of class before returning to their next class period. Students will not be sent back to the class from which they were removed; however, they must complete the protocol before being allowed to return to their next class.
If a student refuses to complete the protocol, they will remain in IR until it is completed. If they don't complete the form, they are not ready to return to their next class. The protocol must be completed correctly before the student may return to class. If a student continues to refuse, the administration will contact home. They will also be assigned a detention or an alternative placement until they complete the Reflection Form.
Once the student completes the Reflection Form, they will have a restorative conversation with an adult before they can return to classes. The restorative reflection can be with any staff member in the building.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mr. Aldous, our assistant principal, shared names of Jenifer students who had perfect attendance for all of 1st semester. Congratulations to all 43 students with perfect attendance!
Ashley Walker and Kristen Brown, our school nurses, collaborated with Quinn to create the attached guidance for "Response to Student Injury/Illness". This will be posted in every classroom as reminders and guidance in case of emergency.
Nikki Johnston, Resource Development Manager from Twin County United Way came to Jenifer to deliver donuts for our Jenifer Staff. This was in celebration for Jenifer Middle School as we won the competition for the most participation in the Twin County United Way employee giving campaign!
Thank you JMS for your Generosity and commitment to community support.

Amazing work by our Cheer Team this weekend! They are Middle School Grand Champs.
Please congratulate the team members and Brooke when you have a chance.
We have our Spelling Bee on Monday, January 12th. Big thanks to Justin, Priscilla, John, and Mrs. Bezzerides for supporting this event.
We only have 5 more days to fill the bus. Please try to pump up this initiative!
We have about 45 wrestlers that have turned out for practice this week. This includes boys and girls from grades 6-8. It’s great to see so many students return to compete in wrestling and so many grade 6 students start their wrestling journey.
We’ve had a great turnout for girls basketball. Between grade 7 and 8 we have 40 girls who have signed up to play for the Burros. We are in the process of hiring an additional basketball coach to meet the need as the turnout was greater than anticipated. This is all great news for our girls.
We have checked off those staff members who have shared their certificates of completion for vector training. Please review our list and let Aaron know if you have completed the training and not submitted the certificate. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1w3gehqFRmLei5iKq0D9ZKPFoeYAx318a3121AbpZi3U/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Important Dates
Assignments for Q2 must have a date between 10/27/25 – 1/14/26.
Any assignment with a date of either 1/15/25 – 1/16/25 will get stored in E1.
Grades will get stored on Saturday, January 17. Teachers must contact Amanda (in the office) to make any changes to any grade in Q2, E1, or S1 after January 17. The stored grade can only be changed by the Registrar/secretary or by an administrator. Teachers must stay out of PowerSchool after grades have been verified on Friday, January 16 and until the end of day on Saturday, January 17. This allows the backup process to complete successfully.
Grades need to be verified with Amanda (in the office) by 12:00 PM on Friday, January 16.
Semester Calculations
Teachers need to choose one of the following calculations for Semester 1:
Total Points (this is the default setting in PowerSchool)
S1 = (50%)Q1+ (50%)Q2
S1 = (40%)Q1+ (40%)Q2 + (20%)E1
Attached are reminder directions on how to set up semester calculations. This should have been done prior to the start of Quarter 2! If teachers are just now setting up semester calculations, they need to verify that PowerSchool is making the calculations correctly.
Dropped Students
A “W” must be placed in Q2, E1, and S1 for all students who withdrew from class. Attached are reminder directions for how to do this.
Students Using Alternate Curriculum
Students using alternative curriculum (typically students with special needs) should receive the comment “Making expected progress.” Do NOT override their grade with an asterisk grade.
Work Habit Grades and Comments (Middle Schools)
Work Habit grades (1, 2, 3) will get entered into S1. (see attachment for directions)
If a student received a Work Habit grade of a 1 or 2, then one or more comments need to be entered.
Do not type the code for the comment. Be sure to click the + button so that the full comment gets added (please see directions in the attachment).
“Positive” comments can be added for any student, but you can only choose from the ones listed in the attached directions.
Due to space constraints on the report that gets generated, we can only use up to 3 comments per student.
Advisory grades for Q2 and S1 will still be P/F (be sure to change the 80% for each P to 100%). Work Habit grades/comments will not get entered for Advisory classes.
Mike Renzelman is our building JITT. Please let us know if you have any questions on the procedures to follow as we end Semester 1.
Attached are the mid-year feedback forms for our Leadership team. Mr. DeLane, Mr. Aldous, and Mr. Miller all have forms attached to collect feedback from our staff. Your feedback is needed to help us grow and develop in our roles. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback!
This week is scheduled for Mr. Aldous.
Always lots to celebrate at JMS!
If you know of a staff member who has celebrated a recent achievement, please share so we can publish here or on the staff shout out board in the faculty lounge.
