So cool to see students and staff back in the building! The first week was great with lots of success. Thank you for the part you play in making this school amazing!
The objective for these assemblies was to welcome students back and share recent updates as well as expectations. We will have regular assemblies this year to teach and reteach expectations and develop understanding of our Burro Values.
SCRIP is a great way to contribute to the LIFE Foundation. The Foundation benefits all the educators of our school district. We can show our support by participating in SCRIP. How much money do you spend at STARBUCKS or WALMART? Purchase SCRIP and automatically contribute to the foundation and still spend our dollars at the businesses you frequent.
Currently Jenifer is in 2nd place for our total. But, if we are going to catch the crew at Webster we need more participants!

New Fire Evacuation Procedures
Thank you for your support in ensuring the first drill went smoothly. There are a number of adjustments that need to be made for the next drill which is scheduled for the morning of September 11th. Before we make some MAJOR changes, we will run the drill again and see how things go.
The Clearwater River Republican Women's Club is proud to support and offer an annual essay contest titled “What's Right About America”! This essay contest is in conjunction with Constitution Day September 17th.
Many of us who were here last year attended the staff meeting for Rooms. This is our new system for communication. We all need to be using rooms for communication by September 17th. This will give us time to start the year and then to transition.
Most recent communication from Ms. Baldus about rooms (8-25) "We are still working with Apptegy and the issue with Rooms and not being able to directly message parents. It is working on the app, but not on the desktop. I know teachers are frustrated and I don’t blame them! I’m trying to stay close to my computer so that I can answer their questions and provide information to try and get the issue resolved. Norman is working with them as well to answer their questions and provide more insight."
Attached below is guidance for the Rooms:
Attached is the updated JMS Handbook for 2025-2026.

On Thursday, JMS was awarded a 5000 grant from the Nez Perce Tribe for our Leadership and WEB program. Great work to Mrs. McCall on the successful grant application. Our students will benefit greatly from the developing their leadership knowledge and skills!
Congratulations to the 2025–2026 Secondary Teacher of the Year, Amy McLean!
Jenifer Middle School • Band & Choir Teacher
Some teachers teach a subject. But some teachers teach so much more.
At Jenifer Middle School, there’s a teacher who doesn’t just fill her room with music—she fills it with joy, encouragement, and the kind of support that can turn an entire day around. Her students say she makes class fun. That she’s positive, uplifting, and always ready to brighten someone’s world. If a student feels overwhelmed—she notices.
If a friend is having a bad day—she makes space for them to breathe, to talk, to feel safe. She’s the one who gets up early (yes, early!) to lead Jazz Band. She’s the one who takes a budget that’s too small, resources that are too few, and still builds a music program that inspires and connects students to something bigger than themselves. In her classroom, kids don’t just learn the notes—they feel the music.
They share it. They love it.
Her students call her “the best teacher in the world.”
And today, we proudly call her…
Amy McLean—Lewiston School District’s 2025–2026 Secondary Teacher of the Year!
Huge thanks to all those involved in making grade 6 orientation and WEB a great success. Special thanks to Ali, Amy, Brandon, Cheyenne, Mandy, and Desirae for running the WEB program.
Thanks to Anita, Sandy, Mike, and Quinn for helping with the BBQ.
Thanks to grade 6 teachers for meeting with the students and getting them used to JMS on their first visit to our campus.
I look forward to seeing this program develop over the year. We have some great kids as WEB leaders this year!
It seemed that Back to School Night was very successful and easily done in the 1 hour block. It would be good to hear from teams and staff about possible changes to the format.
Some have suggested aligning the BTSN event with SAC. With the purpose of having students show parents around the school and meet teachers.
I've also heard about having students transition together following their schedule.
Personally, I like the relaxed feeling of the meet/greet and flexible movement around campus with the purpose of preparing for the first day of school. It seems to assuage some student anxiety that many face on the first day.

Today, Warren, Kinsey, Justin, and myself interviewed candidates to fill the position. We hope to have someone hired by Wednesday, August 20 so they can start with students on day 1 and Mareena can start with her new LHS colleagues as well. Big thanks to Warren, Kinsey, and Justin for doing these interviews on the last Friday before school.
Good News! Chromebooks are back in the building!
Bad News! Many Chromebooks have not been repaired...
We should be ready to distribute Chromebooks to teachers by Wednesday. However, many Chromebooks have not yet been repaired. I will go into more details about this at our staff meeting.
As we know, there has been some leadership transition leading into this new academic year. At our last Ad Council meeting, Mr. Sperber shared an updated chart of areas of responsibility. Please have a look to see who is doing what.

Library - I am very happy to report that we have hired Priscilla Smith as our new librarian. We got pretty lucky to add her to our team!
Grade 7 Special Education - Jennifer Johnson was just hired on Friday, August 1st as our special education teacher for grade 7. She has a wealth of experience teaching in schools in Idaho and has brings work experience from working at NICH. Again, very lucky to get her!

Our mentors, Kinsey, Katy, and Mike will be in on Monday afternoon to work with our new teachers. Quinn and myself will work with new teachers on Tuesday, August 5th.
Now that we have a fence surrounding our school, we need to revise our emergency procedures. Quinn has started working on revamping our muster points and exits. Please see the current planning below for details and feel free to share feedback.
It's likely you won't even notice that there used to be a sidewalk leading from our parking lot to our side entrance. Maintenance has done a great job of seeding and growing the grass to replace the sidewalk. You will notice a brand new Art Room as it has had some major renovations over the summer. Deep cleaners did an amazing job cleaning classrooms. Painters have added some new colors to classrooms and hallways. And Mike and Tim have done outstanding work on our floors over the summer. JMS is looking clean!
We still have a number of jobs to get done before the start of the school year. There are some major projects in the works as well at other campuses so I am not sure where some jobs stand as priority. I will have an update from Corey Eller this week on jobs.
IT come through the school and updated computers. I was told on Friday that 70% were completed remotely and Rich and Shane came through to physically update the rest of the computers.
John is coming back to school for a few hours on Monday to do some tech work. Mainly ensuring that new teachers have work station ready to go.
Cheer camp took place over the last weekend of July. Big thanks to Brooke and McKenzie for their work to prepare our Cheer team for this coming year.
We have registration scheduled for August 11-13 & 15. We start with grade 8 on August 11 and then 7th grade on the 12th and 6th grade on the 13th. We finish with late registration on Friday, August 15th.
The hours of operation are from 8-11 and 12-3.
Staff should come and get their pictures taken during registration to avoid the long queues.
Thanks in advance to our office staff and counselors who are working to prepare for registration on Monday, August 4th. Special Education teachers along with counselors will make sure schedules are complete and ready for students at registration.
Congratulations 🎉 to our very own Officer Kent! He was recently awarded the Behavioral Health Support Award!
He is awesome 👏 and we’re lucky to have him supporting our community!

Over the summer we had some pretty significant cleaning and painting taking place. The rooms were deep cleaned by Marisa, Shereen, and Tracy. I believe that this team did an amazing job and according to Brandee, we've never had such a thorough job completed.
We've also had painting crews coming in over the summer. Many classrooms were painted and walls got an update.
The Art Room is having a major renovation. By the time school starts, Mrs. Reed will have a brand new classroom!
There are some other projects happening as well with some small changes to the counseling center, data room, and Occupational Therapy Room.
Huge thanks to our exploratory/elective teams for their work to create our offerings for 25-26. Attached below is an overview of what the courses look like for next year.
Desirae Reed will offer a Yearbook class in the 8th grade for 3 quarters. She will still offer one section of 8th grade Art.
Jeremy Feucht’s 8th grade Graphic Design class will change from semester-long to quarter-long and will be offered once each quarter. Jeremy will teach the Audio/Visual Tech class, which will also change from semester-long to quarter-long and will be offered once each quarter.
Cheyenne Gregg will have just one GT class in the 8th grade, one in the 7th grade, and one in the 6th grade. She will move into Will’s room (111). She will offer leadership classes to students 6-8.
Cindy Brotnov will teach Health and Creative Writing for grades 6 & 7 and Careers for grade 8.
Morgan LeBlanc and Kevin Maurer will offer Health and PE. However, with Mrs. Brotnov adding Health, Mr. LeBlanc and Mr. Maurer will add additional PE.
Some points to highlight, grade 6 has some adjustments to teaching allocations and teaming. Mrs. Robbins and Mr. Akin will be White Team and Mrs. Linja and Mrs. McLeod will be Red Team. Blue Team will become the 3 person team with Mrs. Mullikin taking 3 sections of Science and 1 section of Social Studies. Mrs. Wolf and Mrs. Turner continue to team as Blue Team.
In grade 8, we know that Mr. Thompson is joining the West Team. In grade 7 we have Mrs. Packwood joining South Team.
For Team Leads, grade 6 keeps Mrs. Wolf as team lead and in grade 7 south team Mr. Washburn will replace Mrs. McFarland.
For the rest of the teams, there is a rotation of team lead by quarter and a designated individual to work as Team Lead coordinating advisory. Mr. Rodgers, Mrs. Dufour-Harrich, and Mrs. Stamper will coordinate advisory program with Mrs. Wolf and Mr. Washburn. Mrs. McCall and Mrs. Franke will support advisory as well.
Please have a look at what we have currently planned as an updated approach for our evacuation plan. The muster point will be a central location for all and students will gather by an assigned core teacher that they will ALWAYS gather when there is an evacuation.
We will have time to review and discuss plans before we conduct our first drill on August 25. However, please share feedback when you have a chance with the current planning.
Thanks!
ALL JMS will gather on the practice field to be accounted.
