Students will complete the survey with exploratory/elective teachers on Wednesday, March 26th. The surveys will be completed throughout the day.
Last year we had 124 parents complete the survey. This year we had 268 complete the survey. Our school has 2nd most completed parent surveys. We are second to the high school and with another 12 more surveys completed we will surpass them. We will send reminders to parents this week to complete the survey. Results are very positive.

We've had about 20 staff members complete the survey. There are many who still need to complete the survey. The survey will close over Spring Break. Please take a couple minutes to do the survey.
With the end of Quarter 3 on Wednesday, March 26th, some exploratory/elective teachers have asked for some time to prepare for the transition of quarters that is happening in the middle of the week. Here is the coverage during grade 6 exploratory/elective blocks:
Heather – Aaron will cover
Desirae – Bonnie F will cover
Kevin – Justin will cover
Will – Ali will cover
Morgan – Quinn will cover with support from John A.
Please have a look at the resources attached for the ISAT Testing Schedule. The calendar and guiding resources have been developed to facilitate a successful testing schedule.
Hi everyone,
Please see the information below as we approach the end of Quarter 3 and finalize our gradebook. Attached you will find two files:
· Final Grade Setup.pdf
· Dropped Students.pdf
Important Dates
· For semester-long classes, grades can be entered into Q3 with a date up through March 26.
· For quarter-long classes, grades can be entered for Q3 with a date up through March 25. For quarter-long classes, a final exam for Q3 (if given) has to be entered with a date of March 26.
· Grades need to be verified with the Amanda (in the office) by 4:00 PM on March 26.
· Grades will get stored on Thursday, March 27 starting at 5:00 PM. Teachers must contact their school’s Registrar/secretary or principal to make any changes to any grade in Q3 after March 27. The stored grade can only be changed by Amanda or Aaron. Please stay out of the gradebook from 4:30 PM March 27 until Friday morning on March 28 so that the backup can be successful.
· Do not enter a grade in the gradebook with a date of March 27! Due to the district calendar this year and the way dates have to be entered into PowerSchool, March 27 is an overlap of Q3 and Q4. We do not know where the grade will get stored if March 27 is used as a date on an assignment.
Semester Calculations
Teachers can choose one of the following calculations for Semester 2:
· Total Points (this is the default setting in PowerSchool)
· S2 = (50%)Q3+ (50%)Q4
· S2 = (40%)Q3+ (40%)Q4 + (20%)E2
Attached are reminder directions on how to set up semester calculations. Just make sure you are using Q3, Q4, and S2 when following the directions (not Q1, Q2, and S1). To avoid problems with PowerSchool making incorrect calculations, teachers need to set this up before the start of Quarter 4!
Dropped Students
A “W” must be placed in Q3, Q4, E2, and S2 for all students who withdrew from class. Attached are reminder directions for how to do this.
Students with Adapted Curriculum
Do not to use an asterisk (*) for students who use adapted curriculum in your classroom due to their special needs. Instead, be sure to add the comment code “Making expected progress.”
Advisory
Advisory grades for Q3 will be P/F.
Work Habits
The PowerSchool template that is being used to generate the Quarter 3 Report Card will pull the letter grade, percentage, number of absences, and number of tardies for each class. The Report Card will not include Work Habit grades or comments. Therefore, Work Habit grades/comments will not get entered in Q3. Work Habit grades/comments will get entered in Q4 on the April 18 progress report. If Exploratory teachers of quarter-long classes would like to enter Work Habit grades/comments for their Quarter 3 classes, they can, but those will need to be entered in Semester 2 in PowerSchool. But, just know that parents won’t see those Work Habit grades/comments until the report card gets printed at the end of Semester 2.
Also, Exploratory teachers of quarter-long classes need to make sure their final Q3 grade matches their final S2 grade. This has been a problem in the past for teachers who had set up a grade calculation for S2 that didn’t match their grade calculation for Q3. To make sure Q3 and S2 are identical, click on the Grading button in your gradebook and choose All Reporting Terms. You can then quickly glance to make sure both columns are the same. Please do this for all quarter-long classes.
Attached is the student survey presentation that teachers will share with students. Exploratory/elective teachers will administer the survey during the following classes: teachers administering the survey during the following classes: 8.2 & 7.4 & 6.6.
Thank you exploratory/elective teachers for your help in administering the survey.
On Tuesday evening, we will have 5th grade students and parents attending the 5th to 6th grade transition meeting. The meeting serves to support the transition process for students. The meeting will start in the cafeteria and then move to grade 6 classes. The meeting will run from 5:30-6:15.
We've worked to improve our school in many different ways. I appreciate the feedback that you have shared for myself, Quinn, and Justin. It helps us continue to look for ways to improve whether these actions are small or big.
Please take some time to complete the Staff Engagement Survey for 2024-2025. This survey is very similar to the questions that we have shared previously, but also have some questions that will help our district administrators as well.

Thank you for your efforts to make our Spring Conferences run successfully! It's great to see so many families in the building celebrating student success. I asked Brandee to go up to Sacajawea to see if there some ideas that we could steal to make adjustments to what we do. And there are a couple of improvements that we can make for next year, but for the most our conferences run very well! Thank you for your effort and preparation to make the conversations meaningful and productive. If you have some suggestions for improvements, please share them with me. Attached is conference feedback form

There are a number of scheduling adjustments under consideration for 25-26 school year. I have collected all the feedback from the different teams and grades and created summaries and feedback comparisons with the help of Chat GPT. During team time this week, I will visit and discuss these summaries before moving forward with any changes.
On March 12th we will focus on achievement and engagement for our professional development time. This is one of our last chances to do some work to prepare for our ISATs. We are very very close to hitting our goals for all of our content areas.
It is important for all staff members, regardless of what we teach or who we support to embrace our testing culture! Please review the attached presentation and share with me the certificates for upcoming assessments.
Please have a look at the video for Mrs. Beckman's Teacher of the Month! Congratulations again!
Please submit your nominations for Students of the Month for February. Please complete by Monday, March 10th!
Feel free to share any feedback from our conferences from 2024-2025. Feedback will be useful for us to make improvements for next year from a school perspective and district perspective.
Summary from Fall Conferences - What went well
The one-day, 15-20 minute block schedule was highly effective, allowing for a steady flow of conferences with minimal downtime. Teachers appreciated the full schedule, noting that it made the day go by quickly and efficiently. Despite initial concerns about condensing conferences to one day, participants felt they saw as many families as they would have over two days, with the added benefit of staying consistently engaged.
The student-led conference format was well-received, providing a structured, meaningful opportunity for students to share their progress. Teachers felt the time slots were just right to connect with families while keeping conversations focused. The central location and thoughtful arrangement of tables and team placements in shared spaces like the gym or cafeteria supported smooth logistics.
Scheduling multiple conferences at once helped streamline discussions and encouraged teams to be intentional about what to highlight in student folders. Overall, the turnout was strong, and the consensus was that parents made attendance a priority, reinforcing the value of the format. The positive response suggests that continuing with the current structure would be a great choice moving forward.
Summary from Fall Conferences - What needs improvement
Logistics and Space:
There’s a clear need for more tables, especially for 6th and 7th grades, to accommodate families who stayed longer than their scheduled time or arrived unscheduled. Adding 10–12 tables per section could ease overflow and prevent congestion. Additionally, training students to help manage time or signal when slots are over could keep conferences running more smoothly.
Scheduling and Timing:
While many appreciated the one-day format, some teachers found it overwhelming to meet with so many families in a single day. There’s feedback suggesting that offering two shorter evenings (e.g., 4:00–7:30 p.m.) might better align with parent availability and provide more opportunities to connect.
Teacher Visibility and Access:
Placing exploratory or elective teachers in a more visible location, like the other side of the gym, could make it easier for parents to find them. Ensuring these teachers are readily accessible might enhance the overall experience for families seeking feedback beyond core subjects.
Consistency Across Grades:
Inconsistencies in conference practices across grade levels — like time slot lengths or card colors for students — made it tricky for parents and teachers moving between teams. Streamlining these elements could make transitions smoother and reduce confusion.
Parental Engagement and Feedback:
Although turnout was steady, attendance was down for some teams. It might be helpful to gather direct feedback from parents to see if they felt one day was sufficient or if they’d prefer more options.

Officer Kent has been working his way through the grades and classes sharing his presentation about internet safety.
It is very important that we make time to have these lessons take place in classes. We have been asked to share some guidance about these lessons.
Block these lessons outside of an advisory period
He will need 40-50 minutes for his lesson
There should be no more than a regular core class present for the presentation. Don't have two attend at the same time, too many students for a heavy topic.
Have a back up lesson ready in case he cannot present his lesson. Sometimes he's called away for police business.
Please update the booking sheet with the time you want him to attend and shoot him a message letting him know.

Grade 8 West Team made the news on Friday with their learning experience with Idaho Transportation Department's Snow Plow simulators. Thank you Mrs. Lumley for organizing this learning experience.
From KLEW New: by Daniela Julio-Cano - Fri, February 21st 2025 at 4:20 PM
LEWISTON, ID — Students at Jenifer Middle School had a unique opportunity to learn about snowplow operations firsthand as they welcomed "Plowabunga," one of the newly named snowplows in District Two. The visit was part of the Idaho Transportation Department's first annual "Name a Snowplow" contest, which allowed eighth-grade students across the state to name 12 snowplows, two in each ITD district.
Here in North-Central Idaho "Plowabunga" was named by a local Lewiston student.
" Plowabunga is one of many plows that the fleet that the public can own. Are goal is to name all the plows across the entire state," Idaho Transportation Department District 2 Public Information Officer Mark Pfeifer said.
In Grangeville, another student got to name the second snowplow "Alpha Storm One".
During the visit, students were given a tour of the snowplow, learning about the intricate controls and technology operators use. They also had the chance to ring the airhorn, a highlight for many.
"Today the students got to climb up into the cab, see the intricate controls the operators have top technology at their fingertips. They, of course, got to ring the famous horn, the airhorn on there, so many students found that quite quickly," said an ITD representative.
Additionally, students experienced a snowplow simulator, providing them with a realistic view of what it's like to drive a snowplow.
Mark Pfeifer, ITD District Two Public Information Officer, emphasized the importance of snowplows in maintaining road safety during winter.
"Please know that we're out there to help keep you guys safe. They too want to get home to their families, the operators. They're out there 24/7 rain, snow, or shine," said Pfeifer.
This winter season, ITD has reported a total of 10 strikes involving snowplows. To prevent further incidents, the department urges drivers to slow down, create space, and avoid passing snowplows on the right.
We've had two different people try out the Math IA position. So far this hasn't materialized into a longer term fill for the job. We will keep trying and if you know someone who might be a great candidate for this job, please encourage them to apply.
We have a number of students who continue to try to enter the building before school and during lunch. It is difficult for office (Lori and Amanda) to know if students have a purpose or if they are trying to enter without actually having permission.
Please use this sheet to enter students names if you want them to come for morning support or in the afternoon.
If students are not on the list, they will be turned away.
The winner of our school spelling bee is Phineas Dover!
Please make sure all students have the opportunity to come for conferences. Please prepare to share information with parents in the following areas:
