Here we go! ISATs start this week!
Thank you for all your preparations to make our ISATs run smoothly. Also, thank you for your work to revamp our schedule and support the different initiatives to make the ISATs a success. What has impressed me most about our preparations for ISATs is something that I've seen all this year at Jenifer. We have the belief that we can and do make a positive difference for our students despite the challenges that we face. We have shared frustrations, but ultimately we are solutions focused about making a positive difference. I know we will have great success this year from our ISATs.
Great work to Mr. Wicks and Ms. McLean for preparing students for the District II Middle School Music Festival.
Thank you to all the teams for supporting our grade level assemblies last week focused on ISATs and Spring Attendance Challenge.
Last week the ELA Curriculum Review Committee had their first meeting with admin, parents, and teachers present. It was a positive and productive first meeting. We meet again on Monday, April 29th from 3:30-5:00 in the Curriculum Resource Center.
The impact of the death of Jamison Berry was managed well by all our staff. I want to thank our crisis team, teachers, and counselors who played a significant role in how our school dealt with this news last week. Keep in mind that mourning moves in stages and some students hide their grief in different ways. I want to thank our East and South Team for their support with the students who knew Jamison best and supporting his sister Gorgia.
NEED HELP!!!
Board Meeting will be at Jenifer on Monday, May 13 - We want to celebrate some of the learning that took place this year with our Board Members Visit. So far we have GT volunteering to share as well as Jazz Band. Who else would like to share some recent celebrations in learning? We'll also need our ASB students to help out as well.
Monday and Tuesday this week sees us start our ISATs with ELA CAT. The schedule below outlines the logistics for the test along with the roles and responsibilities of teachers and support staff. If you have not reviewed this resource, you must do so at your earliest convenience.

Clearly we have made improvements with our PBIS implementation process. We have done great work since our last visit. I have attached the summary from early November for a comparison reference.
There are some recommendations that we can all work on by using our whole school acknowledgment system more frequently. One way to do this is to attach 5 Burro Bucks to your lanyard with the intention to distribute 5 daily. Many staff teachers are using this technique and I encourage other teachers as well as IAs to do the same.
After grades are completed and submitted on the 19th, we will start with our Professional Development session that will focus on elements of questions 3 and 4 of the PLC process. We will work to develop our understanding of differentiation, enrichment, extension and scaffolding. This will support our efforts in achieving our goals with student achievement and engagement.
This PADLET has many resources to support our work to address questions 3 and 4.

The next 3 weeks will see our school start to ramp up activity in preparation for our upcoming ISATs. Please note that we have a whole school staff meeting on April 17 from 3:00-3:30. Location is yet to be determined, but the focus will be on ISAT preparation.
Today there will be a solar eclipse. Our area will experience this partial solar eclipse between 10:36 a.m. – 12:32 p.m. Our schools are talking to students about the eclipse and how to enjoy it safely. More information about safe viewing of the solar eclipse can be found on our district website: https://www.lewistonschools.net/blog/eclipse-viewing-safety-information/
The district is looking for staff to support Summer Learning programs. For more information on Pathways to promotion, have a look at the guidance for parents:
If you are interested in supporting Summer Learning, please let myself and Ms. Eimers know.
On Tuesday, principals and leads of secondary attended a meeting at the district office focused on PLC questions 3 and 4. Attached are the resources shared at that meeting. We have made great progress with our work to embrace the PLC process, but there is still work to do.
This PADLET has many resources to support our work to address questions 3 and 4.
We will work to make this the focus for our next professional development day on April 19
The attached Assessment Confidentiality Agreement will need to be signed by all staff members involved with ISATs this year. This is all part of the process to prepare for ISATs.
We still need to order a significant number of headphones to ensure all students have the ability to hear the testing. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YJQqVdt9l527TDGA1FPoZ-Km9XGFzJHszfzDHKEPBvo/edit#gid=0 Have a look at the spreadsheet and let us know if your count is incorrect.
We are also working on the logistics for food service for students before testing begin.
Before the end of the year we will endeavor to conduct a curriculum review for ELA. Representing Jenifer in this committee will be Aaron, Justin, Joy, Angie, and Mandy. Additionally, I have reached out to our Parent Advisory Board for volunteers as we will need 5 parents to support the process as well. Please have a look at what has been shared by Ms. Fenter for the steps to review secondary ELA curriculum.
At our last PD we discussed the need to hold respect agreement sessions with our students at the start of quarter 4 during our advisory classes. Attached is guidance to complete the agreements. Please make this the focus for advisory this week. Coincidently, this will happen around the same time as Diana Morgan visits our school on Thursday.
Attached is the staff and parent survey responses from 23-24. Along with the results are selected comments that represent the majority of comments shared. Please take some time to review the results. The Culture and Communication committee will review these results in detail next week.
