What a great way to end the week with our school BBQ. The weather was perfect for students and staff to enjoy lunch together and close out the week.
This week we continue to prepare for our conferences that will be held on Thursday. Remember, our goals during the conference are:
To meet with all of our students and their parents/guardians.
To share “I can” statements and current levels of learning.
To provide strategies that will help support your child’s learning at home.
Please continue to reach out to parents to book conferences.
Thank you to all our teachers for your participation and support during our dept meetings. It's great to see our depts working together across grade levels to support school improvement and enhance our curricular focus.
Please note that this week is a "NO MEET WEEK". This means no staff meeting or additional meetings. PLC and Team meetings will continue.
ELA and Math SICA assessments need to be completed by Tuesday, September 30th. This is the date set by our district to complete SICA. We still have a number of students that need to complete this assessment. I know this will inconvenience many, but these students will be pulled from classes to complete these assessments, this includes exploratory classes. I know this is not ideal, but neither is dedicated a weeks worth of instructional time for these assessments, which is what many of these teachers have already done to complete.
We are currently in discussion to run our ISAT schedule for the Winter SICA to have a more organized approach.
Thank you to all those who have supported these assessments, a big thank you to Justin for working all day Friday to support the completion of these tests.
This week John is gone to support his family in Michigan. If you have IT issues, please contact Aaron.
LOCKS, LIGHTS, OUT OF SIGHT!
Lockdown is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. From parental custody disputes to intruders to an active assailant, Lockdown uses classroom and school security actions to protect students and staff from the threat.
PUBLIC ADDRESS
The public address for Lockdown is: "Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight!" and is repeated twice each time the public address is performed.
"Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight! Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight!"
The Lockdown protocol demands locking individual classroom doors, offices and other securable areas, moving occupants out of line of sight of corridor windows, turning off lights to make the room seem unoccupied, and having occupants maintain silence.
Thank you to all those who supported making the BBQ a successful event for students!
Team leads met on Thursday and discussed using an advisory calendar to support the sharing of resources for the different themes covered throughout the year. Attached is the calendar that has been created. If you have resources that you have used to cover the themes for the year, please add them to our calendar.
There are many resources used to support student goal setting, which is the focus for student engagement this year.
Attached are resources from Second Step and Overcoming Obstacles, two programs that can be used during adviosry to support goal setting instruction.
Please review the Burro Bulletin from last week. Information shared with parents was focused on upcoming conferences and Burro Cards.
Please continue to reach out to parents to book conferences.
There will be some changes to the conference layout. Feedback from teachers last year includes moving the exploratory teachers to opposite side of the gym to make them more visible to parents. Additionally, we will need more overflow tables in all areas, as this was another piece of feedback to implement for teachers.
Please review feedback from last year.

Lots to celebrate in the short time that we have been back at school. Have a look at the slide show for our recent staff celebrations.
If you know of a staff member who has celebrated a recent achievement, please share so we can publish here or on the staff shout out board in the faculty lounge.
Attached are the students of the month for September. Thank you for sharing the positive letters of recommendation for these students.
