We have a number of committee meetings this week and we need to prep for conferences. Please note that next week is a "NO MEET WEEK". This means no staff meeting or additional meetings. PLC and Team meetings will continue.
Please continue to reach out to parents to book conferences.
Please review the Burro Bulletin from last week. Information shared with parents was solely focused on upcoming conferences.

Thank you for your active participation during our first school improvement day of the year. Thank you to Quinn, Justin, Katy, Kinsey, and for their support in facilitating our learning. It's great to see our team continue to work to improve. Thank you Heather for all the awesome snacks! We appreciate how you have incorporated this learning experience of food preparation for our PDs with your students!
Please have a look at some professional development opportunities through book study that are available.
On Friday, Sept 19, two students shared a presentation with me about the idea of having dogs in school. Seems crazy, but thinking about some of the issues we have, maybe a dog, highly trained, could bring some much needed calm and improved well-being to some of our students.
Policy 972: Facility Therapy Dogs - From Aberdeen, they have some policies in place supporting this idea.
It was pretty cool to see Mr. Feucht's drone flying during our football games and in the mornings.
This technology will be a fun addition for our tech students to enjoy and learn more about.
I was told that the footage was also useful to our football coaches as they reviewed film with our students.

Spirit Week was lots of fun! A great way to start our Fall Athletics program. Thank you to all the staff members who supported Spirit Week efforts!
We have a couple more volleyball games this week. Please come to the games to show your support for our student athletes.
We also have Drama Club auditions this week. Please make sure to remind students of this opportunity. The auditions take place in the cafeteria from 3:00-4:30.
In this update, I am sharing updates for our regular advisory program and our Friday Burro Block. Please make sure you review the guidance shared.
Attached you will find guidance for our Fall Conferences along with the booking sheet for conferences. Please use this sheet schedule parent meetings.
We want as many parent/guardians as possible (see strategic plan below)
By the end of the 2029-2030 school year, parent engagement in their Lewiston school(s) will be at least 94%, as measured by attendance at parent-teacher conferences.
Attached is our 2025-2026 Phone Tree. Autumn will soon be here and we may have some weather that causes limited access to electricity (like last year). Please make sure your number is attached and if you are a leader of a phone tree that you create a group text message to share updates of information during emergency.
You should receive a "test" text message making sure we have updated contacts.
Our advisory program will take a thematic approach this year with grade levels aligned.
From our last Team Leads meeting we confirmed the following thematic approach for semester 1:
August & September: school expectations, classroom agreements, handbook; goal-setting (and ongoing implementation all school year)
October + November: Kindness Month (anti-bullying month); Common Sense Media lessons & Developing positive relationships (conflict resolution)
December: Service learning projects
This focus isn't too different from what we have done in the past. However, this provides clarity for our direction for social-emotional learning
We also confirmed that grade levels would work to have 1 lesson a week focused on social-emotional learning.
We are working to secure Second Step for grade levels that want to use the lessons from that curriculum. Additionally, we are looking Overcoming Obstacles as well.
Please note that our Admin + Counselors + Team leads are coordinating to support advisory lessons.
Conferences are scheduled for October 2 from 12:00-7:30.
Attached below is the template from last year to use as a schedule for confirmed conferences. Please fell free to make your needed adjustments in this document.
Please keep the 20min consistent interval for conferences
200 White chairs have been ordered (September 14).
Conferences will be added to our agenda for team meetings this week.
We want as many parent/guardians as possible (see strategic plan below)
By the end of the 2029-2030 school year, parent engagement in their Lewiston school(s) will be at least 94%, as measured by attendance at parent-teacher conferences.
For PD this week we have planned to develop our understanding of our students. We will also have time to work on PBIS and Rooms. More information will be shared later.
There have been some unscheduled visitors to classrooms in the morning. This includes students and parents.
Please add student names to this list if they can come to your class in the morning. If they are not on the list, students will be turned away.
Thank you!
Please have a look at the schedule below for our for SICA. Please let myself or Justin know if you encounter any issues while conducting assessments.

Many of us who were here last year attended the staff meeting for Rooms. This is our new system for communication. We all need to be using rooms for communication by September 17th. This will give us time to start the year and then to transition.
We will have training for Rooms this Wednesday during PD
For the past 2 weeks we have had discussions about our Burro Block also known as Friday Extended Advisory. Discussions have focused on how to use this dedicated time to support our PLC process specifically questions 3 and 4.
Question 3 is: What will we do if students do not learn?
Question 4 is: What will we do if students already know it?
I appreciate all the different perspectives shared and am grateful for the willingness and support teams have to improving and clarifying how we can best use this time.
Going forward, Friday extended advisory time or Burro Block will be used for grade level teams to organize Tier 2: Interventions, Tier 3: Remediations, Enrichments/Extensions.
This is also a great time for admin/counselors to work with students who need behavior intervention/remediations.
Aaron and Ali can work with grade 6 and grade 7 South
Quinn and Bonnie can work with grade 8 and grade 7 North
Please see the "JMS Friday Extended Advisory Protocols" for expectations for Fridays.
Once a quarter we will have all teachers provided an engagement focused learning experience for students. This will be led by core teachers as well as exploratory/elective teachers.

SCRIP is a great way to contribute to the LIFE Foundation. The Foundation benefits all the educators of our school district. We can show our support by participating in SCRIP. How much money do you spend at STARBUCKS or WALMART? Purchase SCRIP and automatically contribute to the foundation and still spend our dollars at the businesses you frequent.
Currently Jenifer is in 2nd place for our total. But, if we are going to catch the crew at Webster we need more participants!

Many of us who were here last year attended the staff meeting for Rooms. This is our new system for communication. We all need to be using rooms for communication by September 17th. This will give us time to start the year and then to transition.
Most recent communication from Ms. Baldus about rooms (8-25) "We are still working with Apptegy and the issue with Rooms and not being able to directly message parents. It is working on the app, but not on the desktop. I know teachers are frustrated and I don’t blame them! I’m trying to stay close to my computer so that I can answer their questions and provide information to try and get the issue resolved. Norman is working with them as well to answer their questions and provide more insight."
Attached below is guidance for the Rooms:
