Happy Weekend!
This was a crazy busy week! The feedback that has been shared is that students have taken ISATs very seriously and for the most part done well thus far! Thank you for motivating them to do their BURRO BESTS!
Our average attendance this week was 94.4% - Our goal was to get 94% each day, so we’ve done very well. Thank you for promoting the attendance blitz!
There is a POWWOW tomorrow at LHS. It is free and open to the public. Try to check it out if you have time.
If you haven’t downloaded our district APP yet, here is the link to do so: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lewiston-isd-1/id6742158117
I’m told if you download the app, all your wildest dreams could come true!
If you have requisitions for the remainder of the year, please submit those by the end of the day on Monday, April 28th so they can be to the district office by May 1st.
We are now into the 2nd week for ISATS. We will continue with the ELA PT for the next couple of days and then move to math assessments by Thursday and Friday.
It came to my attention that exploratory elective teachers didn't know that we would not have extended advisory on Friday. Please make sure you look over the schedules attached here for ISATs. This will help keep you in the loop for how we are progressing with our schedule.
Good news! We averaged 94.4% Attendance last week!
Because you are the most amazing staff ever... Heather's 8th grade classes will be making lunch for all of you on Friday, May 9th. You will have a choice of either a sandwich or a salad. We have made it to ISATs. The next two weeks see us focus heavily on completing our state assessments. I am confident that we will reach our school goals for the year. For many team, we almost hit our goals on Winter SICA. Attached below is the guidance for ISATs. Additionally, Justin has left some resources in the staff lounge. This is where you can also get the snacks for our classes as well as gum. If you have questions about testing, please let us know!
Thanks to all the teachers for getting their progress reports completed on Friday. And thanks for your participation in our school improvement day on Friday. Please when you have time, please complete the feedback form from the session: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdwq8VjESf5mkoAS18CRi8uwzSJEnaUffa0wBt5FEF_L_YWvA/viewform
Thank you for your work on the questions posed on school improvement connected to our parent and staff engagement data. A collection of team responses are attached for review. Really good feedback that will help continue discussions for school improvement during team meetings.
Reminder that our Jenifer Orchestra will be performing on Wednesday, April 23rd in Grangeville. Additionally, Jenifer 8th grade band and choir will also be attending the music festival on Wednesday. Amy sent an email on Friday with the list of students that will be attending. Orchestra is about 30 students, and with Amy's students, its an additional 90 students absent.
Thanks Justin, Quinn, Katy, and Kinsey for supporting the recent school improvement day.
When you have time, please complete the feedback form from the last professional development session. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdwq8VjESf5mkoAS18CRi8uwzSJEnaUffa0wBt5FEF_L_YWvA/viewform
We reviewed and analyzed much data at this session. This will help the guiding coalition when they are analyzing data during the data days.

Lance will be visiting JMS on Monday, April 14th. He would love to hear all the great work that you have been doing while he is in the library this morning from 7:45-8:15.
Exploratory/Elective teachers would like support with school-wide effort to have students bring library books to all of their classes. We would like to see students read a book during down time instead of always going to their Chromebooks and possibly playing games, watching videos, or listening to music. Please have students grab a library book when in transition to exploratory/elective classes.
We will have exploratory/elective classes featured at the board meeting that Jenifer is hosting on April 28th. Mrs. Ohrtman-Rogers has started working out some logistics to have elements from her class highlighted. Thanks Mrs. Ohrtman-Rogers!
I am grateful to the flexibility and willingness of the exploratory/elective teachers for making some adjustments for next year. These updates are aligned to what has been discussed in the Middle School Opportunities Group.
Desirae Reed will offer a Yearbook class in the 8th grade. She would still offer one section of 8th grade Art.
Will Thompson has accepted the 8th grade ELA position that will open up with Joy Beckman’s retirement.
Jeremy Feucht’s 8th grade Graphic Design class will change from semester-long to quarter-long and will be offered once each quarter. Jeremy will teach the Audio/Visual Tech class, which will also change from semester-long to quarter-long and will be offered once each quarter.
Cheyenne Gregg will have just one GT class in the 8th grade, one in the 7th grade, and one in the 6th grade. She will move into Will’s room (111). She will pick up a 6th and 7th grade Exploratory class that will mirror what Chelby Smith will begin offering at Sacajawea or possibly leadership classes offered to students 6-8.
We are still in the process of working out some other changes that should be announced by week's end.
we have brought back some consequences for students who are arriving to school late and arriving to class later. Students who accumulate 4 or more unexcused tardies to school will serve lunch detentions. Students who come to class late will get 1 warning and then every tardy after that will be a detention from the teacher. There is teacher discretion here in terms of lunch or after school. We need students to come to school/class ready to learn every day. If students arrive late to class, please do not send them back to Amanda or Lori for a pass. Mark the student tardy and the office will make any adjustments if needed.
Special Education - Mrs. Henry has resigned her position for next year, which means we are looking to fill this position. I have appreciated all the work Mrs. Henry has done in grade 8 and I know she will continue to be successful in her next posting.
Grade 6 - Mrs. Mullikin has done great work this year filling in as a long term substitute for Mrs. Boardman and then moving to fill the position for the remainder of this year. This position has been opened for internal transfers for our district.
Attached below are the student engagement results.
We will spend some of our school improvement time on Friday reviewing these results and comparing our results to the last semesters internal survey.
This week is ISAT prep week. If only it was possible for us to review every piece of learning in preparation for the start of ISATs next week. Thank you for preparing our students for ISATs. All the practice and preparation will pay off, and I am confident that we will hit our goals or come super close!
Please continue to work on our JMS Bubble Groups in preparation for ISATs as well as ensuring students have some additional achievement data for transition purposes.
Last Friday, April 11 we conducted our most recent fire drill. If you have any feedback from the drill, please add your feedback to the document attached.
Officer Kent, Quinn, and myself will be meeting this week to discuss a possible revamping to our fire drill muster areas as the new fence may cause some issues for future evacuations.
Last week we held our grade level assembly with Grade 7 North Team. We have adjusted the presentations by adding information about snacks and dress code. For grade 8, we will also have a guest speaker Shelley Hutchinson, from Upward Bound Community Outreach Coordinator speak.
Tuesday, April 15 - Grade 7 South Team
Wednesday, April 16 - Grade 6
Thursday, April 17 - Grade 8
Last Friday, April 11 we had a couple parents attend our parent advisory group meeting. Attached is the presentation that was shared with the parents. Additionally, we shared our Friday communication with families which is also attached for review. We discussed ISATs, Attendance Blitz, Attendance to School + Class, Dress Code, results to the Parent Engagement Survey, and Dates for Parents.
When you have a chance, please share your appreciation with Quinn. Thanks for all you do Quinn!
We are in need of one teacher/adult from Jenifer to help in the booth during track meets, since we lost Denise Gratz to retirement.
All this person has to do is help record races with Ipads (as a backup timing system) and write down the order in which athletes finished- super simple.
Let Mr. Miller know if you're interested and available 4/16 or 4/30 from 3:30-7:30 (ish) and are willing to be paid for your time!
Need booth support with track meets
Engagement + ELEOT Data Review - We will analyze recent data reports from engagement surveys as well as review parts of our ELEOT results.
Behavior Focus - We know that quarter 4 will see some behavior increase and we are reinforcing expectations with tardies to school/class and dress code. Quinn will take us through some of the planning to prepare for these behaviors as well as discuss some positive behavior initiatives like quarter 4 activities at lunch and perfect attendance rewards. PBIS team will also update us with SWISS information and provide strategies to address areas that are still concerns.

Spring Break is amazing! A great time to rest and recharge for the final push that lays ahead. I spent much of the Spring with my mom who came for a visit from Egypt and my sister who was also visiting from Boston. It was nice for us to be together again in Lewiston.
We recorded over 500 student submissions for our student engagement survey. Early analysis looks like our results are similar to previous years as well as our own internal engagement survey that we administered in the fall.
Our parent data has slightly improved in comparison to last year. Additionally, we have doubled the submission results going from 124 last year to 268. This is in large part to the drawing we ran during conferences. The winner of the drawing was Kaylee Osoona.
Staff data is similar to previous year submissions as well. There are areas that we need to focus on for improvement. We will discuss the staff results at the next School Improvement session on April 18th.
Jaysie is a student at SAC who has suffered some significant medical issues. We have been asked to support Jaysie and her family by running a Hats On Day on Friday, April 11.
We have department meetings scheduled for this week and next week. These should prepare us for upcoming ISATs as well as provide an opportunity to discuss ways we can support our Bubble Students.
Have a look at the look of our revamped websites https://www.lewistonschools.net/o/jms
This link will take you to a page that houses our staff resource links: https://www.lewistonschools.net/o/lisd/page/staff-resources
We have started recognizing students who've had monthly perfect attendance. We have a bulletin board dedicated to perfect attendance and we have been visiting advisory classes recognizing perfect attendance. We have some other actions in the works, but this is an attempt to recognize the good behavior we seek to see from our students and not just react with actions for those who are not behaving.
We will implement an Attendance Blitz during ISATs to boost attendance and reduce the number of makeups that we will need to do.
There have been some issues with the installation of the fence that is going around the main building. The fence should be completed in the next two weeks.
Please have a look at the ISAT resources that are attached. We have student assemblies planned over the next 2 weeks to prime students to do their best during the testing window. Thank you to all the teams that have worked to prepare our students to successfully complete their ISATs.
Please see message we received from Diana Morgan about our progress with PBIS.
Quinn and Aaron,
Kim and I enjoyed talking with your staff and students last week. It was so exciting to hear all of the fantastic things your PBIS team and staff throughout your school have put in to PBIS implementation this year! I love your teams growth mindset and effort towards continuous improvement, this will serve you well in maintaining sustainable PBIS implementation, well done!! Also, the significant decrease in ODRs from last year (1900) to this year (330) is evidence or your significant efforts.
Strengths
All staff interviewed could state your Burrow values and reported explicitly teaching those values.
All students could state your Burrow values
Recommendations
Consider removing postings of old values throughout common areas and classrooms to limit confusion.
Continue supporting staff to deliver Burrow Bucks frequently so that all students have access to that acknowledgment system.
Interview Statistics
Percent of staff interviewed that could name the majority of schoolwide values: 100%
Percent of staff interviewed that reported explicitly teaching schoolwide values: 100%
Percent of staff interviewed that reported giving out formal acknowledgment this year: 80%
Percent of students interviewed that could name the majority of schoolwide values: 100%
Percent of students interviewed that reported receiving a formal acknowledgment this year: 75%
We have a new website as well as an App that we can use from our phones.
A page that we should all bookmark is https://www.lewistonschools.net/o/lisd/page/staff-resources
This is where you can find all the old staff links from the district website. There is now the opportunity for parents to message us through the website. Be on the lookout for messages from Thrillshare <no-reply@apptegy.com> I did a test with the messaging system last week and things look to be working.
Please see the attached resources for Students of the Month for March. Thank you for identifying these students before Spring Break and writing excellent nominating commentary. We will announce these students today and send the letters as soon as possible.
Attached are the students who have been identified as having perfect attendance for March.
We will announce these students at our upcoming grade level assemblies. Additionally, Lori and Amanda have worked up a new reward system for these students. They will receive badges that they can hang from their backpacks.
Lastly, we will enter all the students who had perfect attendance into a grade level drawing for an attendance prize.
Please have a look through the staff and parent engagement survey presentation that has been prepared for review. We will discuss these results at our next school improvement day.
I have included summary and short analysis for review as well as included previous years for comparison.
The teachers vs students basketball game was lots of fun! Wonderful to see the students engaged in the assembly and enjoy the competition.
Thanks for your support in this school event.
Please review the attached resources for upcoming ISATs
Congratulations to Mrs. Reed who had her art shown at Lucidity Photography Gallery and Studio on Friday, April 4th. Her watercolor paintings are awesome! It's great to see teachers who are experts at their work demonstrate their abilities outside of the classroom.
If you would like to know what it's like to be a student in Mrs. Reed's Art Class, you should sign up for an art lesson: https://www.luciditygallerygift.com/product/create-with-the-artist-desirae-reed/179
