The Council of Student Committees (CSC) is one of the main councils under the Ateneo Senior High School Sanggunian (Sanggu-SHS). The Council of Student Committees (CSC) empowers and develops Ateneans by having committees, also known as Sandigans, that promote causes and advocacies. Each Sandigan tackles and combats an issue that may be found in the country. These Sandigans serve as avenues for students to promote a culture of awareness in the ASHS community, and to channel their potential in servant-leadership. The Sanggu-SHS CSC is divided into five Sandigan committees and two special committees. The Sandigans are Kanlaon, Lakambini, Mapulon, Matanglawin, and Alunsina committees. The special committees are the Fair and Bluebook committees.
The Council of Student Committees facilitates the smooth operations of its committees to create efficient and competent outputs such as the annual SHS-Fair, annual Bluebook, and the promotion of the various advocacies upheld by each Sandigan committee.
The Council of Student Committees envisions itself as the primary support and platform that empowers students to participate in the growing diverse culture of the Ateneo Senior High School. It aims to represent the school through sustainable projects, events, programs and activities that are spearheaded by student-led committees in order to create a safe and positive environmentfor all students.
During the first year of the Ateneo Senior High School, the Council of Student Committees, led by Gamby Bautista, was only composed of four Sandigans: Mapulon, Lakambini, Matanglawin, and Kanlaon. The second CSC Chair was Ryan Oquiza, and the ASHS had its first ASHS fair during his term. By the end of Ryan’s term, Alunsina was approved, adding to the roster of Sandigans. Last school year, the CSC chair was Erica Uy, and she introduced a new structure for the Sandigans which is being implemented for SY 2020-2021.
Sandigans are committees under CSC that are dedicated to certain advocacies. Through their own projects and activities, each Sandigan raises awareness for their cause by educating the Ateneo Senior High School community about their advocacy.
CSC Week
CSC Week is held to showcase and launch the planned advocacies and goals of all the Student Committees , namely the five Sandigans, Alunsina, Matanglawin, Lakambini, Kanlaon, Mapulon, and the two special committees, Fair and Bluebook.
The week is to launch and introduce advocacies of the committees. CSC Week aims to promote awareness for social issues that each respective Sandigan tackles, and holistic culture building for the ASHS community.
The Fair Committee can choose to promote the upcoming events, rides, or mini-events that will happen. On the other hand, the Bluebook committee can choose to promote the yearbook theme and the layout design that they plan on using. This event will serve as a stepping stone for the Sandigans to promote their own goals and initiatives for the rest of the school year.
CSC Christmas Project
The Council is obliged to hold an annual Christmas themed event to serve as a send-off before the Christmas break. Part of the advocacies of Christmas is the spirit of generosity, love, and altruism, themes that are common among the four Sandigans. Since the CSC is also a culture-building program, showing the Christmas spirit of the Sandigan can also help spread the message of thanksgiving, sustainability, and loving care to the ASHS community. The event can range from an open mic, an outreach, a donation drive, or any proposal as long as it is within the discretion of the core.
Volunteer Fair/Exposure Week
The event will be for students who wish to join and volunteer for non-government organizations that stand for each CSC Sandigan’s advocacy. Being exposed in a volunteering program is a great way to spend their two-month or five-month long summers. The event will allow students to engage and talk to NGO representatives who may educate them about the advocacies that they uphold and apply all around the Philippines. This may inspire ASHS students to support and volunteer for the NGO and get to engage with different communities outside of the Ateneo.
The event aims to fulfill the council’s goal of opening opportunities for students to be part of significant advocacies that aim for social change.
TINIG: Talks on Sandigan Advocacies
(Communications Sub-Department Project)
An event primarily focused for the Sandigan committees. This is a year-end talk regarding any topic deemed as educational, informative, or relevant to the advocacies of the Sandigans given by the Sandigan members themselves.
Each Sandigan will have a talk and the topics can range from pressing issues regarding the country or in the ASHS, or an informative talk regarding some pertinent misconceptions about a certain Sandigan advocacy or such. These talks must be thoroughly researched by its members and will act as a pseudo-research presentation that aims to speak to a youth audience.
