Sense the experiential, environmental role of writing in Chinese culture, to see the aesthetic dynamics of artistic writing (calligraphy) as a means of orienting self within cosmos (or Nature), learn a few basic components in the writing system, acquire a compelling admiration for cultivating the soul through beautiful writing. Not to mention a brief nod to the powerful imagery and concision of Chinese poetry, which has transformed world poetry, especially English language poetry over the past 100 years (not an idle claim).
Please have a brush, ink or paint, and several sheets of paper. The brush can be a painting brush or sumi brush (preferred). Ink can be sumi ink or any water soluble ink or medium such as water color paint. The paper can be any kind.
Two sessions taken in order.
