Learn baking basics in four hands-on lessons taught on campus by English professor and amateur pastry chef Elisabeth Piedmont-Marton. 7/1,Tarts and Pie Pastry; 7/8, French Cake Basics: torte, genoise, sponge; 7/15, Bread; 7/22, Students' Choice, but something big and ambitious like croissant or strudel dough.
Beginning Ceramics: Handbuilding

Course description: Using red and white earthenware we will create small hostess dishes (think serving candies, nuts, olives, etc...) and decorate our works with sprigging, sgrafitto and colored slips.
Fun French

Course description: "Fun French" is designed to be just that: FUN. Lots of laughs, misplaced syllables, butchered pronunciations.....all the while enjoying one of the world's most beautiful languages. We will try to provide the knowledge of having a grasp of the basics of spoken French. Class members will be asked to speak on a daily basis. The only requirements are attendance and a fun attitude. We will do a lot of the class work from chalk board notes and xeroxed hand-outs. On s'amusera! Come have some fun.
Introduction to American Sign Language

Course Description: This course will introduce you to the visual-spatial language used by many Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. You will learn the manual alphabet, fingerspelling, some basic vocabulary and sentence structures, and how facial expressions are a critical component of the grammar of ASL. Portions of the time will be "voices off" to encourage you to find ways to communicate without spoken words.
Introduction to Color

Course description: This course will introduce basic concepts related to how we see, interpret, and use color. Participants will be doing color exercises using paints and color pencils related to such topics as: color composition (including traditional color schemes), partative color, color temperature, color space, situational color, etc.
Light-emitting diodes- can they save the world?

Course description: Our main objective is to introduce today’s premier illuminant- the light-emitting diode. We will sample the history of man-made lighting technology, ultimately leading to the LED. A discussion of their history will be followed by a comparison with incandescent, fluorescent and other current sources of light. We will finally get to play with some LED lighting fixtures in Heather Hall.

Do-not-resuscitate order? Is there a difference? Do I need one? Which one? 8. Ethical Wills.
