Course Description: Love the taste of super-fresh eggs? Want free entertainment? Like pets with a lot of personality who also "pay their rent?" Then backyard chicken-keeping is for you! This class will cover the basics of raising chickens in your backyard. We'll talk about chicks, coops, feed, eggs, city ordinances, and the day-to-day joys and responsibilities of domestic poultry.

Entrepreneurialism in the Life Sciences - “Let’s develop a drug that cures a disease”
Instructor: Michael Douglas, Brown -Wilson Scholar in the Sciences
Course Description: The delivery of better global health requires the continuum of university life science research, public-private partnerships and foundations focused on delivering cures for disease. What are the moving parts and professions that bring this about? How do basic research, business, the federal drug administration and clinical research work together to develop new cures for disease? In this class you will learn a broad overview of the process of taking discovery in the laboratory (bench) to new cures (bedside) for diseases in man. Our classes will be part lecture and part facilitated discussions focused on case studies to follow how all this happens. Also we will learn examples of the impact this has had on people. This class is for anyone who wants to loosen up and explore their creativity in a more authentic way. Course Description: Over the last fifty years, video games have grown from curiosities and fads to one of the world's most popular forms of mass entertainment. Learn about the sensational story of how the creative vision of game designers gave rise to a $50 billion industry and a dominant pop culture phenomenon. What are the stories, the people, the innovations, and the fascinations behind this incredible growth?
A short lecture will introduce the amazing stories behind the people, the technology, the games, and the events that shaped this dynamic art form. Participants will then have a hands on opportunity to play some of the vintage games. This is a family friendly event, so bring your kids. They can see how Mom and Dad gamed "back in the Stone Ages".

Mindfulness 101: Getting in the now right now…

Course Description: Participants will learn about mindfulness, a practice rooted in ancient Eastern traditions. Learn how to stop creating your own suffering as you move forward toward a life that is in line with your values and goals. The class will include a showing of “Peaceful Warrior,” a motion picture about the transformation of a college athlete, as well as other experiential activities, including deep breathing, thought diffusion, and the Values Card Sort (all of which will be explained).

Course description: Using red and white earthenware we’ll explore simple hand forming techniques and to create unique bowls, small dishes and mugs. Work will be finished using decorative slips and then glazed.

Join Danielle Stapleton (associate director of university relations - new media), JoAnn Lucero (associate director of university relations - alumni and parents), Alexandra Anderson (associate director of career services) and Jesse Saunders (head library systems and web services) for opportunities to go from social media user to social media savvy. Walk Your Butt Off

Course Description: Tired of walking alone? Exercise routines can be tough to stick with, especially with today’s busy schedules. If you are interested in finding a simple and fun way to stick with a walking routine, join this group. We can motivate each other and celebrate an active life. Think of it as your on-the-move support group for better health.
Set specific goals. There are many benefits to walking, but each person has their own reasons. So what moves you? Want to lose weight? Need to lower your blood pressure? Want to have more energy? Start with small goals that are easy to attain and then gradually set higher goals. Learn how to keep a walkers journal to help you track your progress and reach your personal goals.
